Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

I've had my ER-4XR for about a year, and I love them, but I am disappointed in the cable, for two reasons: 1. the cable begins super supple, but after 6 months of use, the twisted wire above the splitter starts to stiffen. I had to have the cable replaced under warranty already. 2. they REALLY need to release a smartphone cable (with mike and remote). Not having this drives me nuts. Ety has publicly stated that they're working on this, but it's been another year with nary a peep. :(
Innerfidelity (RIP), have a great write up on the ER4 variants and history (https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/25-years-making-good-thing-better-etymotic-er4sr-and-er4xr):
'In this latest iteration of the ER4, Etymotic is offering two tunings: The ER4SR (for studio reference) has what Etymotic considers an accurate response and is very much like the preceding ER4S. Have you listened to the ER4S or P to compare? I hope the sound of the SR is very similar, but I will have to wait for this drop round to compare directly with my trust 4s direct. . .
Regardless, I think the underlying theme here is that these Etymotic headphones are excellent.
I now have the ER4SR from the past drop to compare directly with the ER4S. They sound very, very close (thankfully!). I also have measurements from Etymotic for both to compare, although the old hand drawn ER4S is a bit tricky to read ;)
That said, I fully recommend investing in these new models, even if you own the originals. The new aluminum housing is very sturdy and more compact. With the cord wrapped back over ear, for me the cord self noise is almost entirely eliminated compared to the old housing (even with the shirt clip I don't like to use the old models much on the move because of the cord self noise).
