Have you ever started a keyboard build and just needed to throw on some decent tactile switches in order to kick the tires, but don't feel like committing several hours to lubing first or raiding your daily driver or "finished" boards for switches? Well, if you're like me (and I know I am), Everglide Oreos will do nicely.
So that you know where I am coming from, my personal favorite switches are Zealios v2's, but at twice the price (and absolutely crap in stock, non-lubed form) I went looking for an alternative for experiments. I found that with the ever-so-light factory lubing Oreos have and the shape of their tactile bump, they will do the job for me on a lot of projects right out of the box. By comparison, I recently also tried Halo Clears and found the tactile event to be lacking.
With the release of the Boba U4 and U4T, there are now more fantastic tactile options on the market at a similar price point, but I'll make two points about that. First, I prefer the Oreo's slight quieter volume level over the U4T. I get it, the U4T is designed to be, shall we say, acoustically assertive, but I haven't warmed up to it yet. Second, for projects for which LEDs are important, you'll get more light transmission with the Oreos than the Bobas.
In all, I'm giving five stars not because they are my favorite switches ever, but because of what you get for the price.
BTW, who new that Everglide Oreos pair up great with Everglide black transparent stabs? Okay, probably a lot of people, but I hadn't planned on this pairing in advance, so I was pleasantly surprised when I started this numpad/macropad build:
