StitchjonesThanks for the link to that vendor. Lots of sprint runs in different steels. Too bad they charge $14.75 for shipping but I think that's just the standard rate for USPS Priority.
And yeah, the s110v version is $160 elsewhere.

bookworm13How could you possibly consider shelling out $150 for a damn knife and then cry about $15 in shipping costs?!!!

RayFIf you're comparing prices from one vendor to another, why pay $15 more than you have to?
Another way of looking at it is that's 10% of the cost. If you saw a knife for 10% off, wouldn't you be more tempted to buy it?

bookworm13Yes--and I would buy it and then I would shut the hell up and stop complaining about it--if for no other reason than to relieve the tedium of repetitious complaints about MD pricing. If someone is selling "X" for "Y" cheaper, post the damn link and be done with it. We'll all get a better deal, and MD will get the message.
On the other hand, shipping is never free--you're paying for it one way or another. Amazon demonstrates this perfectly--if you find a link to another vendor on Amazon's site offering "X" for "Y" cheaper, that price inevitably turns out to be as much or more when that vendor adds their shipping charge to the total.
In either case, a fluctuation of 10%, one way or the other, shouldn't stop you from getting yet another damn knife your little heart is set on--with the possible exception of this one--it's butt ugly!

RayFAlright then.
Never said I wanted to buy this actual knife but I did find that bentoboxshop vendor interesting and said so. If I saw a sprint run there that I wanted I would definitely pay the shipping to get it. I did get the Boker Chap knife here even though I had to pay shipping because it was the only way to get it in D2.
But feel free to rant at me if you like - can't stop you.

RayFOh, come now, let's be serious.....MD will NEVER get the message lol It they were going to, they would've by now. If anything, they seem to be going the opposite direction lately, and not slowing down
I don't think it's unreasonable at all to complain about $15-25 shipping on a single pocket knife, it doesn't matter what the value of it is. Large companies on account with delivery services get better rates than we do, and by size and weight I could ship this knife anywhere in the US for half that amount easily, which means they're probably paying like $4 and charging $11-21 in "handling", which is pretty outrageous. USPS could fit it in a flat rate 2 day priority box for, what, like $6?
To say anyone who would spend this much on a knife (or anything else) shouldn't care about what it costs to ship is just silly.

KavikI say they shouldn't care about the shipping cost if, they really want the knife, and if they can't find a better deal for the same knife elsewhere. I've purchased out of print books from secondary sellers, and they really sock it to you when it comes to shipping/handling, but if that's the only source for the item, well, that's just the way the cookie crumbles, right. I recently read about a fellow offering a David Hockney painting for eighty million. He's the only guy selling it. If you want it, you're stuck dealing with him.
On the other hand, if we're talking about commonly available knives, beating MDs prices and shipping shouldn't be difficult. And that explains why MD is so keen on developing custom products (knives especially) that can't be purchased elsewhere, therefore allowing MD set whatever price they feel they can get away with--and shipping too. Woe betide anyone who falls in love with one of those items! The simple antidote is to NOT be seduced by MD's marketing, or exclusive products.
I still maintain shipping is never free--UPS's revenues in 2017 were about 65.8 billion dollars--so obviously we're all paying for shipping, one way or the other ;- )

RayFThat's not exactly how this passage read : "How could you possibly consider shelling out $150 for a damn knife and then cry about $15 in shipping costs?!!!"
But yeah, with those qualifiers, sure.
As for the exclusive collabs here, i dunno, most haven't been too crazy on price IMO, though a couple have been a bit high
I don't disagree that the shipping is in the price one way or another, but I think you're still overestimating the cost of shipping for large volume distributors, like the Amazon prime stuff you mentioned. If it was really costing them that much to ship, they would stop doing stupid shit like sending an individual mechanical pencil in a 10x13.5x5 box......true story 🤣

KavikNo too different--I was assuming this sprint run wasn't available from other sellers (who wouldn't charge for shipping). So if someone actually fell in love with this homely beast, and felt $150 a fair price for it, they should just buy it and swallow the pill on the shipping.
As to weird shipping practices, I've actually seen what goes in a few of these big DCs (and the people who work there)--both were pretty frightening!

RayFI don't keep up on the spyderco exclusives and sprints, there's way too many to be bothered, and i tend to think most of their stuff is overpriced to begin with..... But, that said, I don't think this exclusive belonged to MD to begin with, from a quick google https://www.knifecenter.com/item/SP223GPBN/spyderco-c223gpbn-para-3-folding-knife-s35vn-satin-plain-blade-earth-brown-g10-handles-paramilitary-3

KavikWell there you go--you've rescued poor @bookworm13 from paying too much for shipping, while proving my other point: if there's a better deal to be had, one should have at it!
Although, I could save everyone here about $100 if they'd just buy my favorite Spyderco instead:

A heck of a value and the shippings on me!

bookworm13County Comm used to have the Chap in D2, and Bento Box has one area where it is fairly competitive, aside from the role of vault for sprint runs because of their pricing.
That is the combo packs, where they bundle a couple of knives. Sometimes the other knife is pretty plain, but if it's a model you like then sometimes the combined price ends up being a bit more palatable.

NotsurewhyibotherThe S110V is chippy af. I've seen so many posts of both the pm2 and pm3 with missing tips.
Of all of the steels, it's had the most problems from what I've read.

OminusMight be Spyderco's heat treatment of S110V that is part of the problem. I've heard about chipping in their other knives with S30V/S35VN that I don't hear about as much from other brands. Just a guess.
