The Exotac fireSLEEVE makes any Classic BIC waterproof. Even when submerged to 3 feet for up to 30 minutes—an unlikely scenario, given that the fireSLEEVE also floats—the lighter can be quickly reignited Read More
CURE FOR SEALING PROBLEM
Several people have commented that their fireSleeve won't stay closed. If yours isn't defective, it's probably because the captured air acts as a spring. The seal is good, so the air doesn't escape - but then it pushes the cap off.
I push the cap on, and then while holding it closed, I twist the rubber body back and forth a few times to distort it. This breaks the seal while the cap is fully on and releases the captured air. After this, the cap remains closed and sealed.
Without the air spring inside, it holds well, too.
When i don't have any lighter i can close the lid and the seal is done. But when i put the Classic Bic inside of it (all the way in it) it become impossible to seal it. It just "pop" the lid immediately. I feel like the gasket is not rough enough. I'm i doing something wrong? Basically i can't use it. :(
activedirectoryI'm having the exact same issue. Even when I have it lying down, it keeps opening, so it is essentially useless.

UPDATE: I contacted Massdrop about the issue and they were quick to issue a refund, so while I'm disappointed that this didn't work, at least I didn't waste any money.
TSwansonI have one of these. The whole lower part of the case is a soft rubber and so acts as a gasket where the three ring ridges pictured seal the gap to the harder plastic top cap. By the way, mine came with a lighter included. This MD offer does not. Not a huge deal and they do note that point. Also, it does need to be the traditional Bic lighter to fit properly.
Can anyone tell me what these are mainly for? do people just have them because they look cool? it is waterproof yes, but I can't picture anyone going for a swim with a lighter, on top of that it seems to add unnecessary bulk to the lighter, making it less comfortable to carry with you.
oscar.lotstrandI bought one for my roommate who works for a whitewater rafting company, but the fact that it floats would probably be enough of a reason for anyone that enjoys waterskiing, wakeboarding, or other boat activities.
rneildThink of it as a $15 waterproof refillable lighter... but everytime you refill the fluid, you also replace the flint and mechanism... BIC lighters are already amazing, this makes it bomb-proof
