Product Description
Offset by a colored cap, the body of this entry-level fountain pen by Faber-Castell features a grip section with a series of finely embossed rings. Beneath the grip is a stainless steel nib, available in four different sizes Read More
A good weight and balance to the pen with a very smooth nib. FC makes great stainless steel nibs that I find generally have better QC than Lamys of the same grade.
This pen is great for medium to large hands as the barrel is thick, but not uncomfortable to hold.
Multiple color combinations means you can always find one that suits you or a friend.
The polished barrel is a fingerprint magnet, and will get smudged up easily. Some people don't mind, but this makes me use the pen less than I would like as I hate looking at smudges on my pens.
All-in-all, a great first dive into fountain pens, and great introduction to a German stationery giant.
Gave it to my friend, he was really happy with it as a daily carry around. Recently I tested it out, it's smoother than the Italic Deacon's Doodle and competes directly with the Pilot Metropolitan in this regard
I've owned several Faber Castell fountain pens in the past, and this is one of the most visually appealing in the line, not to mention that is well priced. If I would have to describe this fp with one word i'd go with "reliable". One bonus point for the Loom is that since every fp on the entry line of Faber Castell uses the same nibs, you can easily exchange it with other fps even if they are not of the same model. The only downside I can find on this particular model is that someone could find the fp section not having enough grip and to be slippery. Highly recommended!
I like the pen, the grip is comfy, nib writes fine but not as smooth as I hope for (its not scratchy at all, just that I heard many people said Faber-Castell has very good nib). Don't really care for the scratch because its inside. Almost bought a converter from my local pen shop cos they didn't say they included it. I would give it 4.5 star but not an option.
Good presentation, box was squashed but this isn't the most important thing at this price so whatever.
Matte/sandblasted body is great (I have the gunmetal version) although I would have preferred the option for the olive with that matte finish on the barrel instead of the chrome; it's slippery and while my hands are dry this isn't the case on a hot day in summer. So I went with the no risks option. Nib design is nice if somewhat simple. Cap posts well, stays put and requires force to remove. Cap also clicks shut on removal, satisfying.
Out of the box pen is ok. It's not the best writer in the world, and is somewhat scratchy but nowhere near as bad as it could be for this price. Definitely requires fine tuning but nothing major, just polish, no realignment necessary.
Weight feels kinda light, I'm used to a heavier pen. After holding a Lamy or something similar with exceptional weight with a full metal body the assumption is that the pen is gonna be heavy when you lift it, which isn't fulfilled with this pen.
Piston filler works well, no leaks. Worth the buy just to not encounter problems later. I assume it works the same with other piston fillers though YMMV.
Overall I'm happy with this purchase. After tuning the pen writes very well, nearly as smooth as a gold nib, although this can be achieved with any nib. An inexpensive pen as far as this hobby goes, easy to take with you, doesn't cause trouble, no heartbreak if you lose it.
