Nice feel in the hand, I have large hands and skinny pens are a pain. this is beefy and writes very well; I got the converter as well as can use either the cartridge or bottled ink. Well made and all around good performer, not the best I've ever used, but at the price, it was well worth the price.
Fantastic pen. Very smooth and wet nib and a well sealing cap. I had it inked for over a year without it drying out using it occasionally. The only minor gripe I have with it is the cap is a little tough to remove.
Nice design and well balanced. The nib is a typical high quality Faber nib and writes smoothly from the start. The only minus that I might mention is that the small ridges on the section are not enough to prevent your fingers from sliding toward the nib as you write.
I really like this pen. It’s lightweight but thick and long enough to use comfortably without my hand cramping up- i like fatter pens. It’s nice and smooth to write with even for a long period. I would buy it again in a minute! I will say the the nib seems more like a Japanese-width extra fine than say my Lamy extra fine. not scratchy, but finer than I expected from a German pen. Just FYI!
Pen was defective when I got it. The metal BARREL came off the Plastic inner shell (Barrel, not Cap) right at the start upon taking the pen out of the package. I suppose I could fix it with some Epoxy but it should be like that! No response from Customer Support so far. Ref. Photos.
btptanThis sucks, have you tried contacting Faber-Castell directly? I bought one of these from somewhere else, and though I've lost the package, I remember seeing a "lifetime warranty" somewhere in there.
The pen looks GREAT, and it writes SILKY SMOOTH. I've run it with the ink it came with, and I'm using some other inks now . . . all fine.
What makes this a 3 star is simply how slick the gripping surface is. It's REALLY slick. You have to grasp the pen so tightly that it makes extended writing really difficult. It's great for a signature or a quick jot, but it's tough for me to do more than a paragraph or two.
Get me this pen with a decent grip (or the tri-lobe Lamy style!), and I'll buy 2 or 3. It's as slick to hold as it writes!
I have very mixed feelings about this pen. On the positive side is the nib - it is very smooth, even though I purchased the extra fine. On the negative side is the section, which is metal and slippery to hold. I finally used micro-mesh on it to rough it up a bit, which helped a lot. But I worry that it may rust eventually. The section is also thicker than I prefer. It is comfortable enough for writing for a short time, but not for a long time. Overall, I would love to have the nib on a different pen body.
A good weight and balance to the pen with a very smooth nib. FC makes great stainless steel nibs that I find generally have better QC than Lamys of the same grade.
This pen is great for medium to large hands as the barrel is thick, but not uncomfortable to hold.
Multiple color combinations means you can always find one that suits you or a friend.
The polished barrel is a fingerprint magnet, and will get smudged up easily. Some people don't mind, but this makes me use the pen less than I would like as I hate looking at smudges on my pens.
All-in-all, a great first dive into fountain pens, and great introduction to a German stationery giant.
