Currently $21.29 on Amazon and I'm showing $20.75 with shipping from here. Not really saving much.

Sorry massdrop. not this time... its 6 dollars cheaper from ebay (https://www.ebay.com.au/p/Fallkniven-Dc4-Diamond-Ceramic-Whetstone-Fine-Grit/1239595554?iid=292941051005&chn=ps) for me here in Australia. Shipping costs an extra 13.25 dollars for me. only worth it on expensive things with that kind of shipping cost.

New to knives - will this help with the serrations on CRKT Mt. Rainier? I've had it for many years, and I'm way overdue to take care of it.

serrations need a special type of whetstone so i wouldn't even try it. there is a drop that massdrop did a while ago https://www.massdrop.com/buy/rh-preyda-tactical-sharpening-stone which would be good due to its rounded corner. Sharpening serrated edges has a different technique as well so i suggest googling how to do it properly.

I'm wondering if this stone is a good choice for sharpening my filet knives in the field, or if it's too coarse for these types. Otherwise lm down with its size and form. What's the grit rating?

I need some advice. I haven't got any sharpeners yet so I've been looking around to try get something. Should I go for something like this, a standard Lanksy sharpening system for $20 more, or go the hammer and get the Spyderco Sharpmaker?

the size of this one is great for taking out on the trail and field use. Easy to handle. These are always in my camping gear.

For a new knife with a good edge, you would be chewing up the edge needlessly with this stone. Use a cc4 to start, then if you really work the edge dull, go onto this one to bring back the edge. Finish with the white ceramic of a cc4. Make a strop out of an old belt glued to a piece of wood. Apply a little green polishing compound and you can get an edge to shave with. good luck. Check YouTube for some helpful vids.
