I had a problem with my Fallkniven GP bought on Drop. Somehow it created some rust spots on the blade so I tried to contract Fallkniven, they said that it was the vendor that had to take care of the warranty. When I contracted Drop.com they told me there was NO WARRANTY with it.
I've contacted Fallkniven again and this is was they answered:
"In Sweden/Europe we have laws that states that the warranty time is two years and I believe that it's about the same in the USA?
DROP has earlier asked to buy products from our company but we have turned them down, much since we sell to distributors/agents/wholesalers only but also because it seems like they aren't a registered company. I believe that they don't pay taxes and have no expenses for running their "service" and organisation. This is finally the reason why they don't offer any kind of support when you go back to them. Their language is kind but they say no to everything you ask about.
A normal dealer had for sure charged a higher price for this GP but he had also accepted to assist you and contacted his supplier.
As a result of this misbehavior we have formed a warranty which points out non-functional ways of marketing. So, it's up to the customer to chose the cheap and unsafe purchase or add some more to the price and go for the safe.
Instead of a ten year warranty, we're down to two years warranty which still is within the Swedish/European laws and regulations if you buy from a dealer which offers our products at a too low cost level. So, our company still stands up for our products, DROP isn't even close to customer support. If customers in general knew this, organisations like DROP would die within 24 hours.
All the best"
Morale: DON'T BUY ANYTHING EXPENSIVE FROM DROP.COM!!!
I would prefer that they keep the box and lower the price. I also bought this knife before with the green micarta handle and I would have preferred the cocobolo scales over the micarta. Why does this always happen this way? I do not need to have two of the same knife. Why in the last drop did they not offer both options and I would have had my preferred cocobolo?
Spokes30I agree. The box is a sham to justify the price considering that it is plastic (not wood) with plexiglass instead of real glass. Probably not worth more than a buck or so.....
I bought the drop prior to this and would have preferred the Coccobolo scales. The Valet by the way is a differerent type of knife and I don't think compared to the Fallkniven at all, especially in size as the Valet is kid sized. The Emmissary would be much better choice. While I like my Anthem clearly better than the Fallknifen, my go-to-knife has been my Stimulus for the past 2 decades. It has never failed me, is the right size, can take a licking, and has a benign, clean understyle to it and comes in auto. If I had to buy one and only one knife, it would be the Stimulus. Then the Anthem, followed probably by a 940 and maybe the Apparition (exactly the type of reasoning that resulted in my current predicament being that I got a shitload of knives I have never used but plenty looked at AND the safe being full..). As one can tell, I have a particular affinity for Benchmade; have been buying them since the started selling knives and for me Benchmade has just worked. I am not happy with their current lineup, but maybe they have jumped the shark, which would be OK given the issue with my safe. And all this is meaningless blabber that has nothing to do with the post..... my apologies
Thanks for the insight. Sounds like this fills the hand better than the valet despite similar dimensions. It's nice to get perspective from someone with hands on experience. I wish I had a local retailer with a good knife selection so I could get my hands on a wider variety of options to compare.
NotsurewhyibotherIf you want a knife similar to the Fallkniven, I’d recommend the 940. Its elegant, nice to hold, has a beautiful blade and design and bc of its smooth action blade come out lightning fast with a flick of the wrist. Its too much “gentleman “ for me although I got 4 of them in various configurations. If I got time and if you’re interested I can drag some knives out for photo comparison. Unless you’re collecting, there are better choices for equal or even less money. Sportsman’s warehouse is surprisingly competitive especially if they have sales.
Now this may in fact be another case of a new drop being DRASTICALLY cheaper than everywhere else. However Fallknivens’ are so incredibly overpriced it is, somehow, still a little expensive.
Personally I think if you’re looking for a gentlemen’s knife, buy a Benchmade Valet, 3 bucks cheeper and better materials. Or if you want wood handles hop on down to your local Shinola store and get their version for 20 bucks more. M390 baby.
Abyss_FishWhen a benchmade is being mentioned non-ironically as a higher value proposition... Fallkniven should probably reassess their pricing .
I don't think the market is quite this same for this and the valet though. Both are for "gents carry" but this is far more traditional in appearance and function than the valet with its pocket clip, thumb studs and axis lock. Those are all reasons I would take the valet over this, despite this being a subjectively better looking knife, but many people like a traditional "like grandpa used to carry" but with modern materials/construction. I not familiar enough with the traditional/modern traditional market to know what this directly competes against.
After a quick google, this does seem to be quite a bit below the going rate of $200-300 depending on handle material if you are in the market for this particular knife.
Bonus points for the presentation box straight out of Vlindrel Hall.
