A medium-sized fixed blade fit for the great outdoors, the Fallkniven Kolt KKLz is made with the company’s laminated cobalt steel, which is hardened to 60 on the Rockwell scale for an edge that’ll hold through taxing work and light duty. At 3.4 inches, the blade is large enough to handle most tasks, like shaving wood, piercing cans, cutting rope, and more Read More
When I saw the A1, I thought, great deal but I have a bruiser Scrapyard 711 in that class and knives that size just aren't used often enough to justify getting multiples.
Then came the S1. A knife I have lusted after with its very usable size, convex edge and famous quality but, I have multiple knives in this contested size from my Spyderco Bush craft to excellent budget Varusteleka puuko and prized Guardian 4 in M390. It would be pointless outside of pure collecting.
Now this. The Kolt. A Fallkniven I never even heard of. I have to get this! Yeah, I have the Spyderco Street beat but it's more a defensive style blade. Besides, small fixed blades are very usable having superior control 9ver its entire length and easily carried.
This design looks very ergonomic, has the latest Cos steel sandwich and, most impressive, the full convex blade, no saber. The leather danger is definitely a bonus though the cheap plastic slave will likely get most use if my plan to mount it inside my edc satchel works out.
Looking forward to handling this little beauty.
This is a good price for the UK, even with the tax, my Fallknivens are usually the sharpest knives in my collection, that VG10 core takes an edge, convex too don't forget, they just have something about them, never paid full price for one cos they are a bit overpriced, this one isn't though, may jump in.
Excellent blade. Just be careful not to brake the layered steel cover. I think Fällkniven are overpriced, though. When this Kolt knife was launched, FK would include just a ridiculous El Cheap-o plastic cover. As complaints mounted, they now offer a leather sheath. Previous owners (me) have to spend about $70 to get it.
AchBladesHave you had that happen? Isn't the point of the layered steel to have a softer (less prone to braking, chipping, cracking, corrosion) steel on the outside and the harder more brittle steel protected in the middle?
TPeterson13I have not. But there are plenty of videos on YouTube that report this problem concerning FK lamineted blades. You would better choosing FK's 3G versions. Much expensive, though.
Where is this made? Despite the heritage and name, many Fallkniven knives are made in Japan... particularly those that are layered steels. I think most if not all of their knives are now made by subcontractors
I have had this knife for a little while now. I have many knives including an f1, s1 and wm1. I have been very happy with all of my fallknivens. Like the others the build quality of this knife is excellent. Most people buy a certain knife to fit a certain role. Hunting, bushcraft, cooking, edc, etc. I see this knife primarily as an edc or a hiking knife given its size. The leather sheath is a dangler style so works well with a backpack. The size and weight for me is about right for backpacking. Small enough for ease of carry but large enough to be pressed into hard service. If you want a knife for bushcrafting or more extended use I think I might look at the f1 or s1.
