RudolphOkay, that right there is gorgeous!
But....hidden tang, with no pins, and a burl handle on a ~9.5" blade?
Sounds a bit risky for even light chopping
I get that it's probably more of a collector, but even if I'm collecting something and not using it, it should be capable of doing the things it looks like it was designed for
KavikYeah , the photo was a bit of showboating , thats why I made damn sure to drop the Bark River reference ahead of the arrogant photo . Truth be told if I had $500.00 to burn I wouldn't want either and my focus was more on the steel ,the pretty one would probably need handle replacement ,I think the Lam. would look like a saw blade so it was more steel than anything. If I wanted a machete $100.00 would probably be the ceiling. My son has friends who come to me and show me these knife and sword bundles for a couple hundred bucks consisting of "surgical" and " high carbon" steel blades and the point I always try to convey is that I have pocket knives that could cut through them ,so I agree most with your final point form is nice but form with limited or no function thats something I have avoided for the last 30+ years. (It seems really really snotty but it's a personal measure that in my little world only matters to me, always nice to know I'm not alone) . So heres a bit less length but more function https://www.knivesshipfree.com/bark-river-knives-bravo-crusader-cpm-3v-bone-white-micarta-black-liners-mosaic-pins/
RudolphThat looks like a much more usable handle.
We all have our own personal measures in our hobbies and collections, nothing wrong with that. And it's not snotty till you start trying to impose your preferences into others lol
I'm really a wood nut though, and a sucker for a nice multi-tone burl.
If that original handle had been for a kitchen knife, i would've had no complaints 😁
KavikYou gotta check out Knives Ship Free https://www.knivesshipfree.com , I know all dealers have woodwork on their site's, but I'm sure you know it's a carbon fiber - titanium world anymore , at least at the higher price end . I'm always glad to see wood and micarta at least options in the mix .🌳
RudolphOh, i know. I like titanium too lol
So much fun to anodize
But woodworking is another part time hobby of mine (more part, less time this year, but I want to turn that back around in the near future)
Already have a few knives here waiting for me to finish making handles for them.....some day 🙄
I'm familiar with that site, it's one I check out from time to time 👍
KavikAnodizing , little out of my skill set , closest I ever came to anodizing a knife was jumping a solenoid on a starter , but when it's done right it's pretty neat and can be very defining especially with the battleship grey titanium. Didn't know you did your woodwork, sorry wouldn't steer ya to websites. Sidenote did they dump the "blades/knives " category I keep getting pushed to EDC , if so don't really like that too much?
RudolphI do some, but that doesn't mean I'm opposed to buying work done by others :)
Yeah, there's a whole big reorganization going on:
Check out "Update on Community Changes" post on Drop!
https://drop.com/talk/25437/community-changes-and-clarity
And there's an earlier post if you look up the post history of that "Drop" account.
Lots of people aren't thrilled with some of the changes
RudolphThat's basically a Bravo III with 2 inches lopped off (or a Bravo Survivor 3V with 2 inches added on). And thank God! I've used the shorter and the longer and wished more blade-heavy balance and less mass, respectively. This looks like the ideal compromise for best utility across the whole range of uses for a real survival knife. These babies are bulletproof and edge retention for that convex edge is fantastic! Enjoy!
