WalterBlackYes. Because most Amps that have balanced put more money into the balanced section so that part is high quality. So it’s not really the cable doing it, it just allows you to use it. Now Ray please shut up. This isn’t snake oil even remotely. No where do they claim this improves sound. All aftermarket cables are is to have a nicer feeling cable. That’s all this is. Sometimes you don’t like stock cables, either they are too long, to stiff, janky, split too short, etc. And you just want something that is a bit nicer is feel and quality. But no improvement to sound.
WalterBlackCrazy thing is, for an OEM balanced cable, this is somewhat the norm. HiFiMan and Fostex actually charge more for the same sort of cable. Everything Focal makes is priced just as stupid. It's hard to blame the manufacturers when people are willing to blindly spend 300 bones on a cable. I use a cheap $20 chi-fi cable I got off Amazon and personally couldn't be happier. Sounds just like the stock cable but has better looks and feel with a length I prefer. When you price cables stupidly, others will gladly come in and offer something more competitive.
jaydunndidditWell I suspect the Sennheiser is better--better looking, better fitting connectors, and as you say, much better margins.
Unfortunately, none of that "better" ends up in anybody's ears ;- )
CokemanThat's true--cables that make you look more intelligent, or better looking than you actually are--well those are worth whatever you want to pay for them!
CokemanJust because there are plenty of cables that cost more, and even lots more in some cases--doesn't mean these cables are a deal or worth what they're charging for them.
Pretty sure in a blind taste test, you'd spit them all out!
CokemanWhat do I have against them? About sixty-bucks!
As for the logic; why would you buy these when everyone who sells the corresponding headphones includes a free cable in every box?
Buying this one would be...
CokemanHow much does Sennheiser charge for the stock replacement cable? I think that would be my starting point. If those were ridiculously expensive also, I'd shop around. I replaced the too-short cables on my 4XX for about $25. They sound just like the one's I replaced.
RayFBut that's not my point. I am not saying anything about the sound. The point of expensive cables is just about the feel of the cable themselves. You might not care about that, but some people do.
CokemanFeel?!!If we can't measure how good cables sound, how can we be expected to measure how good they feel?
Wait--I know one measurement of feel--paying to much for anything makes me feel bad!
RayFYou are a hard headed SOB aren’t you? What do you mean you don’t know what feel menas? If a cable is clothed, 4 strand braid, more flexible, etc... You have serious problems if you have this much hatred twoards something that isn’t even overpriced. I hope you never find out how much it costs Sennheiser to make the 6XXs.
CokemanRelax, I didn't say you can't buy them--I didn't even say go ask your mother--I just said if this is how you want to spend all the money you made mowing lawns this summer, and you've thought real hard about it, then go ahead. Not because I approve, but because some people have to learn life's little lessons for themselves.
But I would suggest you take better care of this set, than you apparently did with the set that came in the box with your HD600s--for FREE!
WalterBlackI think I remember that drop, or one like it. First, I'd have to admit that I've spent some "dumb money" in my life too, and I suppose if you've got money to burn, g'wan a head! But A). I never liked the shape or the design of that stand and B). I didn't like the idea of financing the guys shop/equipment (he included a lot of nice photos showing what folks were actually paying for). I know he needs the stuff, and that's probably what it takes to make a bunch of those stands--but I just don't want to be the guy who has to pay for it all.
I thought the guy who repurposed the Banana-bunch hanger had the smartest idea--and I'm guessing he saved about $72 over what the drop's participants paid!
WalterBlackWithout thinking about the price, that purpleheart is just flatout gorgeous. If they offered it in Ebony wood, I would somehow justify the cost to myself.
With that being said, I use acrylic Omega stands that were about 5 bucks a pop that do the same job.
RayFI actually like the look of this stand. I just feel like this is way too overpriced.
He didn't invent nothing with it : the shape was already known the wood combination too..
Nothing new so I am sure you could find some less expensive stand with a similar quality.
jaydunndidditLike I said above, I agree that these are beautiful.
I just don't understand how people can spend so much on a stand, or cables.
Put it like that the stand + these cables vs the Sennheiser 58x the choice is already made for me.
Accessories shouldn't cost nearly half the price of some apparently good sounding headphones...
WalterBlackI know I'm wear'n this picture out, but every time some one talks about expensive stands, I have to put it up. Only cost about twenty-bucks on Amazon and it holds two pair. If I had an extra $75 to burn, I'd put towards something I could hear...or maybe drink ;- )
WalterBlackSame one I have--requires a little assembly. If I end up with more headphones, I'll buy another one.
As for the one that cost $130, you have to remember--a lot of people on this site take drugs!

It still seems like a great value. I just had to laugh a bit at the advertising.
I hope you didn't dare put non-gaming headphones on them!
RayFObviously, four. One per hand, one on its tail, and one on its head, If one is feeling adventurous, you could ramp it up to six if you include the legs. Arguably, the best meme beast I've had stuffed. The internet is a vast wilderness, afterall.
WalterBlackActually, you can buy an official sennheiser cable which fits the 58x, 6xx etc. for $20. It's 3m long and has a 6.35mm (1/4") plug.
I got mine from amazon and is great.
It is not a balanced cable like this drop, but my DAC isn't balanced so no need for me to upgrade cables or DAC's yet.
