"Chances are, if you’re not using an S/PDIF input, your music isn’t living up to its full potential. "
Is that not just blatant lying?

AstralIt does seem to be blatant lying, yes. USB is just as capable as SPDIF and anyone who says otherwise either themselves doesn't understand the technologies or has bought into the technobabble of authorities who themselves don't understand the technologies. Don't take my word for it!

If this was optical I would get it in a hearbeat.

This is fine for laptops but any SPDIF out on a PC should be nice and clean from your onboard sound.. AS LONG AS the software isn't messing with it.
Also if you want to be super anal about interference you would want the fiber optic version of this.
EDIT, Also http://www.amazon.com/Fanmusic-FM6011-Coxial-Converter-Digital/dp/B00A2QJK5I/
At the lowest drop price + shipping you are only saving about a dollar. A DOLLAR!

This seems like a nice thing to just have laying around if you need to connect your laptop or something to a dac or reciver without USB

For everyone that might actually believe this gimmick, USB, SPDIF and HDMI are all digital connections and make no difference what so ever in sound at normal use, rendering this device, useless.

nissen1502Yup, the only problem is noise if the USB power is really terrible, but any amp that supports SPDIF is going to be externally powered anyway.

nissen1502Unless my receiver has SPDIF in and not USB. I plan on using this on a RasPi to connect to my receiver.
