As some of you DIYers are aware, there is a tradeoff between bass extension, efficiency, and size... Contrary to popular belief, a large (18") driver will give *less* bass extension than a smaller driver given a fixed cabinet size and all other things being equal. This occurs because the acoustic suspension of the air in the cabinet will raise the resonant frequency of the large driver more than it does the small driver. On the other hand, the large 18" driver will enable higher SPLs and be more efficient than a smaller driver all things being equal. Since this "subwoofer" is for PA applications, I guess high SPL and high efficiency is more important than reproducing the bottom octave.

It only goes down to 38 hz? With an 18 in sub??? That sounds like a speaker. :'D

I doubt your monitors do anything at 136dB SPL peak, let alone at 35Hz.

SennyThey're three ways, so yes they do maintain 35. However not a 136db SPL peak (obviously), as they're just $1k ea nearfields...so they were not designed to. Doesn't make it any less sad that this sub only goes down to 38hz.

APPLICATIONS ELECTRONIC SPECIFICATIONS PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS Permanent installations in: Theatres, Concert halls, Clubs, Places of Worship, Conference rooms, Indoor sports, Arenas and Stadiums. Sound reinforcement for live events: Touring, Bands, Orchestras.
Kinda strange to see Sound Reinforcement powered speakers on Drop but okay. Would love to see some clarification on the halfspace SPL. Usually these specs will also specify a frequency or frequency band at which such SPL is achieved. It would also be nice to see some qualification on the wattage. Is that RMS or peak watts. I'm sorry that I have to ask, but a lot of lesser brands cheat by providing 'peak' watts to exaggerate the capabilities of their product. (I'll never buy a Mackie powered speaker again!). One more thing, it would be great if you guys offered tops along with subs. Most folks getting powered PA want a pair of tops and one or two subs. Subs by themselves with unmatched tops are usually going to be less than optimal.

I'm willing to be the +4 but need to know what sort of shipping rates to EU I may be looking at. Does anyone know where I can find this? Also is this is a 120v-only product?

18 inch and only 38hz low end frequency response. I'd expect more low range than that. But this is designed more for an outdoor concert than an indoor club or theatre so I guess.

NiteNinjaThe website for this subwoofer says that it's 38 Hz to 120 Hz, -6dB, which implies that it's -6dB down at 38 Hz. That's not too bad for a "small" subwoofer designed for pro audio use. Unfortunately the published frequency response curve for this same subwoofer suggests that claiming that the -6dB point is 38 Hz is a bit optimistic. A Google search for "FBT X SUB 18SA" should turn up the site in question. BTW, this is a bandpass sub (6th order most likely), not a folded bass horn. More info about these types of subs at my website, www.diysubwoofers.org.

Brian.Steelethank you for the clarification. there's some good content on your site. it's been years since i seriously played with any big subs, but i tried to get a pair of danley designed servodrive contrabass units to work in my house. these go down to 14Hz and below... i gave up after the sheet rock screws started popping out. today i'm quite content with a single 10".

This is absurd and totally impractical for smaller home use but damn I want it.

JediI think this is more intended to be used as part of a large PA system for a traveling concert.
