I'm thinking of picking this up and pairing with HD 598. Has anyone here used that combo before? I see some people here saying that it's really entry level and should spend a little more on something better but I'm not an audiophile and I just want some basic stuff. Thanks!
I have the E10K and the following headphones for gaming and music and I'm super-happy with it because of how little I spent on it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JOETX8
That being said, I'm pretty picky about audio quality. I have thousands invested in my home theater and I'm still not quite "there" with it. With audio gear, you can either go with "good and semi-affordable" or "amazing and expensive". Everything in between those options is usually overpriced for what you get.
The combo I have doesn't hold a candle to expensive setups, but it sounds great for the price. With this combo, I have the bass boost toggled on for games and usually off for music. The other little bonus with this DAC is it has a line out, so if you have a set of computer speakers you can run them off the DAC and you won't have to toggle, unplug, or fiddle with settings in windows to change where your audio comes from - you just turn the volume down on one and up on the other.
Is the line out also 3.5mm?
Great thanks - I have the E07k right now so I'm already used to having 2 outs and would like to keep it like that. Need a replacement though because the screen is burning out. I was looking at this E10k and the Audioengine D1, any thoughts?
I have the original E10 and pair it with the HD 598 every day. It's a great combo, and I'd think the E10K would only be better.
Both of those are upgrades over the E07k. Go for whichever entices you more.
I have this combo. Works great!
Ended up grabbing the E10K from Amazon - very impressed so far, and the line out volume is completely independent of the headphone jack which is incredibly convenient since I keep both my speakers and my headphones plugged in all the time. With the E07K I would still keep both plugged in but if I was switching from one to the other there were small volume adjustments I had to make each time.
