I had a Fiio E10K a few weeks back and I returned it as I was quite unhappy with its sound, it was very sterile and the sound-stage was extremely narrow sounding with my Q701's and my ath-m40x. I couldn't enjoy my music with it. I got a SMSL SD793-II instead and I'm MUCH happier, light years better than the E10k. The SMSL is extremely competent for the price but needs optical or coaxial input. The SMSL doesn't perform as well as a modi/magni or odac/o2 combo but for its price its quite good.

jchandyYou can get caught up in the smallest of details but I'm really happy with my E10K. I use nvx xpt100 and everything sounds bettere than before. Louder, clearer, bassier, its great for what I want.

FreddyEULouder and clearer than what exactly? On-board audio? I'm comparing the E10k with another external dac/amp in the same price range(the SMSL is cheaper) and the difference isn't minor by any means. Nonetheless if you are happy with it then that's all that matters, I wasn't as I've compared them both. I've had a lot of Fiio's (Fiio e10, Fiio e10k, Fiio e7, Fiio e7k, Fiio e17, Fiio E6, Fiio E11, Fiio E12, Fiio e09k, Fiio X3, Fiio X5), they make great value for money products for sure although it's hard to recommend the E10K when you can get better for less, although the Fiio has the usb dac option whereas the smsl doesn't.
