I disagree with Bog4rt, you are perfectly fine pairing this with HD600, HD650, HD700 or K701. Maybe it can be a little bit dark with the HD650 and HD700, but if you like the sound, it's not a bad pairing by any means.

AshadeI'm sorry that you misunderstood me. I'm personally a cheapskate, and wouldn't step out of the house, especially for usage w/ a set of headphones costing more than $100. Those headphones if I owned them would stay in the house, and would be paired with something more substantial than a portable DAC/AMP.

Bog4rtI mean, it's fine man. It depends on what you prefer. I move a lot with my headphones (I don't care taking them out) plus I don't like buying equipment that I'm gonna miss somewhere else. I use to use O2+ODAC at home, but honestly, the E18 is almost as good in many situations (I already own one).
I have two Q701, one A900X and one HD700 and I take out them depending on my mood. All of them pair awesome with both the E18 and the O2+ODAC (this last one modded to allow batteries on it). Just superb combinations.
You can do better with a Lyr or above probably but other than that, I would highly recommend the E18.

AshadeCould you clarify- are you using E18 w/ O2+ODAC unit? I'm fairly new to JDS products and I would love to combo the E18 with a desktop amp.

BryanKYou can. Let's see: - ODAC+O2 and E18 both are a DAC+Amp combo. In both of them you can use the full combo, just the amp or just the DAC (this only for E18 unless you mod O2+ODAC). - O2 is a much more powerful amp than the one in E18. You can buy it separately and/or add the DAC part later (ODAC), or just use an external DAC (the E18 DAC for example, using the output line on it).
Honestly, 90% of the headphones are going to be properly driven by the E18 amp (this includes all the ones I mentioned above) BUT some others will need more juice (current, not voltage), for example orthodynamics like Foxtex T50RP, Mad Dogs, Hifiman, Audeze, etc. If you are in a tight budget you can go with E18 first, and add an O2 later if needed, which is similar to E17+E09K. Maybe a little bit more messy, but better combo in my opinion, plus you can add ODAC later and keep the E18 for on the go only.
By the way, I forgot to mention you can build your own O2 fairly cheap. Just check this link if the designer: http://nwavguy.blogspot.com
