Be careful out there... if you plan to use this as a DAC for your android device the list of supported hardware/kernel combinations which will work is very short. For example, I was tempted to get this to try with my new nexus5, but that would be a no-go from what I've read.

If you have a device that can and you don't mind upgrading to Kitkat the official nightlies for Cyanogen Mod 11 have USB audio enabled by default. This isn't a hot plug solution (you have to start the phone with it already plugged in & restart the phone once you remove it), but if you are DIY a DAP out of an old phone or use your phone for multiple digital needs it isn't much of a hassle.

I actually read it works with the N5, then after reading this I found that it does not... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547188 BUT, I'm not opposed to upgrading my rom from stock either. Beauty of the Nexus lineup is that it's super easy to do so. Thanks @Bog4rt

$6 is kind of expensive for an uncertainty. When I get the E18 I will try out my options though and report back. Maybe with a video.
