My older brother likes his new M7...A lot!
This is a gift for my older brother as I thought it time to replace his older FiiO (M3?). He is NOT a fan of cell phones and so I thought this would suit him well and it does. It playes his music beautifully, it even has FM capabilities and it was affordable while still being very well made. Thanks Drop!

Great player for the price
I wouldn't be happy paying full MSRP but for the drop price of $115, it was a great buy. Sounds great thru wired headphones and Bluetooth as well.

Good sound but...
I don't have a high end comparison and am not an audiophile, yet I have ears. I like what I hear, but for some strange reason when you try to use the equilizer the volume drops a lot in PO mode, but in LO mode with an amp it does not change. The boot up is slow, at least 20 seconds, then another ten to load the music from SD. It does not remember if the last song you were listening to next time you turn it on. Update: I added a FiiO A3 headphone amp and it has made a significant improvement in sound quality and boosts the bass too. Downside is that the amp has less battery life than the player.

TbladeLine out puts out a constant volume, with the amp section, the volume drops to avoid clipping issues, sort of like when you equalise on a pc, you reduce overall volume by the largest amount of db that the eq profile raises a frequency.

My fault maybe, but I'm disappointed
Somehow I missed how small this thing is. That's my fault. I missed that this has no wifi. Also my fault. But where I can fault it is in the performance and sound. It's speed is atrocious. It takes so long to boot. UI responsiveness is absolute trash. And the sound is what left me disappointed the most. It's too soft, mediocre detail, too narrow, lacks definition. I mean...if I needed a small and light DAP for strapping to my arm for a workout then it's great. But I like to sit comfortably and listen to productions as an experience. This does not fit that need. It's now sitting in a drawer. I'll probably give it away as a prize for ExtraLife.

Compact player with good sound quality and a nice screen but setup was a bear.
This little player works well and sounds good, but for me setup was a nightmare. It comes with just a "quickstart" guide which explains what you already know, like what the controls do. It does NOT tell you that to get much out of the unit you HAVE to buy supplemental storage in the form of a microSD card, and that you'll also need to download the complete manual from Fiio's website. The specs list 2GB of internal storage but I couldn't access it because according to Windows there is a problem with the disk which Windows helpfully asked if I wanted to fix but couldn't because the drive is write-protected. I spent hours trying to remove that write protection with no joy, so I decided to install 256GB of additional storage. This, thankfully, let me transfer stuff, like a firmware update, to the M7 and install it, as well as finally get some of my FLAC files copied to the device and playing. Once all that was done it was smooth sailing but it would have been very nice if the quickstart guide had advised me to add storage first thing. So the good news is the sound quality is very good if not stellar playing high res files. The bad news is that the FM radio, one of the main reasons I bought the unit, has poor sensitivity. Here in central Maine I only get about 6 FM stations of listenable quality whereas my NAD FM tuner brings in well over 30. This lack of sensitivity will not be an issue for city dwellers, but country mice like me should be advised. I see that the unit is sold thru so I won't belabor these points. As for stars I'd give the sound quality 4+, the setup a 1 or 2, and the interface and everything else 3, for a 3 star average.

The interface on this player is horrible
Honestly, it sounds pretty good, but user friendly it is not.

wendellkbTbh, Chinese brands DAP are crap in this regard, even the mid-tier DX220 still lags a lot ....

Overall this player sounds great when paired with my Fiio E11k amp and Sennheiser PX100. The owner's manual leaves out a lot of the basic operational functions of the player. After getting frustrated I didn't use the player for a few months. Now that I've used it for week and accidentally figured out some of the functions (that I guess I was supposed to be born with) it has become usable, barely.

What a piece of crap. The user interface is 20 years out of date. So hard to use. I have a masters in computer engineering and this was still so hard to setup, so clunky. Don't buy this, my old ipod was far superior. Who cares if it has better sound output if it is too hard to get to the music you want to listen to. Playlists are ridiculous to import, you have to have intimate knowledge of android and the app to get it to import. And why is the form factor so big? if I wanted to carry a large box in my pocket I would start smoking cigarettes. What a waste of $$.
