I am new to the audiophile world. How is this different from any other music player like an ipod or even your phone? Don't all devices support higher quality files (flacs, vinyls, etc)? Is the quality noticeably different from this compared to your phone using Akg77x for example?

Depends what you're after really, I purchased this recently because of the compact size and the fact it can hold up to 128gb, my 64gb Oneplus One was getting full. The sound quality is better than the OPO (I use poweramp player), more precise volume notches (OPO is generally too loud or too quiet between the few volume notches) and generally easier to use/change quickly without having to use the touchscreen of most phones. Big phones are also terrible for exercising with.

If you have an iPhone--you're not going to be able to play all files (FLAC is an example yes) unless you're using 3rd party apps. iTunes is also a hell of a hassle to use vs. drag-n-drop functions. Also.. not everyone has 64gb phones without tons of apps/pictures eating up space.. and if you're using quality files--it will fill up fast.
"Audiophytes" will play up the differences in sound but that LARGELY depends on your Cans and Music Files.. but yeah, this is going to sound slightly better/refined than your phone. iPods have also not sounded as good since (3rd 4th gen iterations imo)
This is not a ymmv, this is just from experience from an unbiased view. I have iPods, iPhones/Androids and a few DAPs.
