I own one of these I got directly from Fiio but I'm not really satisfied with it. This price point is pretty great for an X3, but I don't think I'll buy another Fiio device after my X1's click wheel stopped functioning properly and the X3 I got to replace it works most of the time yet needs to be hard reset (with a pin/paper clip) about once every other day.
The UI is extremely poor and for playlists you cannot reasonably make one on the device itself. If you want a playlist with tracks from all over your library you'll be better off doing it on your computer and importing.
They sell these devices and update them for six months and then no updates though there are plenty of bugs and things to fix about them. Seems like Fiio isn't interested in really extending support for very long on these devices that have plenty of bugs.
As far as usage goes it sounds great, battery lasts a long time, it's not a huge thing.
DeltaGWhile I agree I think next time I will not purchase FiiO just due to the lack of continued support and not good UI.
This is a great entry level device though. I would imagine the price has dropped on it recently because they are ready to release a new version of it like they did with the X1 so you're about to buy an outdated device is what it seems like.
Especially since FiiO's software support of this device is now done.
ChabukuI'm actually one of the creators who made a custom UI for FiiO X5 and X5ii...
You would have a great time exploring the custom UIs, they come at no risk, and some of them are better than any other DAP out there!
DeltaGDo you have a link to any for the X3?
My biggest problem is the inability to make playlists on the fly without opening a track, playing it (interruption whatever else is playing), and then adding to a new playlist.
I will randomly DJ artist spaces I hang out at and usually do it from my device. Oftentimes these days I'll use the X3 as a DAC than a DAP because at least on Android I can use PowerAmp which IMO has the best Enqueue interface.
