No one should be buying this unit at this late date; They were EOLed years ago. There are newer Fiio and Hiby DAPs that are better on all levels, and cheaper.
Sure the X.3 might be better than most phones and iPods but it wasn’t better for me than certain iPods. None of that matters because those are all very old products.
Question Re: Filo DAC & DAP compatibility
Bought the Filo Alpen 2 DAC to help enhance my Hifiman HE350 listening experience and the other day I received my Filo X3 MIII DAP, thinking I scored and about to update my audio player.
I've tired running the M3 thru the Filo DAC, but not happy with what I'm hearing.
To me I get the impression these units are fighting each other on the DAC side of things....
1 - Pushing music from the laptop to Filo Alpen 2 DAC to Hifiman HE350 cans is awesome > The Best!
2 - Pushing music straight from the Filo M3 III to Hifiman HE350 cans.... not impressed!
3 - Pushing music from Filo M3III to Filo Alpen 2 DAC to Hifiman HE350 cans..... again not impressed! Honestly, I feel worse sounding then set-up #2.
Q: Are the DAC's in both units freighting each other for control?
Q: Are the 2 units incompatible or is there a fix in the control system that allows one to configure setting that will allow them to function together properly.
OR
Return the Filo M3 III and get the DAC-Less M7?
Your thoughts... Anyone?
The Unboxing: The unit looked new, but there were some light scratches on the protective screen cover and in the area of the touch dial.... didn't think much of that and brushed it off as nothing.
Played with the unit for a couple days as mentioned above #1, 2 & 3 and not being satisfied with what I thought by all accounts would be a HUGE improvement... NOT!
Back to the Drop website for community discussion to read this is a discontinued model not a NEW Version, which the Drop description leads one to believe...
Got me thinking about the scratches and that this unit I got may be a recycled return!?!?
Back to the Box: Upon a total dismantling of the box and inventory of the contents, I was shocked as H> E>Double-Hockey-Sticks to find a Bonus in the form of a used 16GB SD card with someone's music.....?? or was it a Test card???
I will be contacting drop and requesting a refund... but I am not holding my breath as I know how difficult it is to return goods to the DROP. I find the buying from DROP is a Hit or Miss Experience and for me more Miss then Hit!
I am starting to think Drop is Nothing More then a Glorified Clearing House for Discontinued goods.
I still need a New DAP for my Filo Alpen 2 DAC... all suggestions welcomed.
Thanks all
"Next-Generation Audio Playback" Seriously??
What kind of dope is the marketing department smoking this week? In keeping with truth in advertising laws this would be much more in compliance if it said "Your Father's Generation Audio Playback at a discounted price to unload all of this old inventory of a long discontinued player."
Oh yeah, but only IF it actually plays since this device is Fiio's white whale of unresolved firmware problems. So that's a 50/50 proposition.
Truth.
General DAP question, have lots of old mp3s, guess they're not "hi res," would they sound any better on this than on a cell phone or computer? Have Audio Technica ATH AD900x and Bose qc25s (if noisy)
Couldn't differentiate mp3 and WAV on https://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2015/06/02/411473508/how-well-can-you-hear-audio-quality Maybe my computer (xeon based tower) limits that, idk.
PMNCAlso wanted to add that you’re better off buying an inline lighting dac, for example, than using this children's toy.
There are comments here describing this compared to an iphone/ipod as being ‘hi-resolution’ & like ‘4k tv to crtv’.
These comments are comical...do not listen to them.
How does one sync music and playlist with a music management software on device like this? Any recommendation on software? Im still using ipod and itunes. thanks
lol, let it go? Hypocritical much?...you came here ten days after the last comment to ramble on back & forth with yourself over information not even relevant to the initial discussion. 🤷♂️
And I never accused you of anything...Paranoia setting in? 👻
