Fun fact - use audacity or similar program and convert your any 16 bit audio file into 24 bit flac - you will hear sound improvement. It seems that wm 8740 does far better job with 24 bit, hence the sound difference on the same audio source.

GreywindIs that sarcasm or something? Converting 16-bit to 24-bit only adds 8-bits of zeroes, and bloating the file by 50%. You'll get as much as an improvement in acoustics as if you converted a 192kbps MP3 to FLAC. The only reason anyone would need 24-bit is if they were mixing or remastering the track. http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html
bubblyNope, it's not a sarcasm - give it a shot. I know exactly that up-scaling does absolutely nothing to sound source itself.
But that effect has been noted by few users on forum which is dedicated to X3 modding. It just seems that WM 8740 (which is X3's DAC) was originally intended to work primarily with 24 bit sound, so it performs worse on 16 bit sound.
And I agree that 24 bit is an overkill. Even more, I guess 95% of people won't hear the difference between 320 and FLAC in a natural environment.
