I have a first generation Fiio X3. I love it. I listen to mostly higher bit rate FLAC files and occasionally 320 Kbps files if they are the best I can find. The line out I connect to the aux input in my quite nice ( all aftermarket JL / equipment ) car stereo, which is great because it puts out higher voltage than any other device I've attached and does all of digital to analog conversion itself. I am thinking about keeping it for that use as well as a portable DAP. Is the quality of this DAP, the x5 v2, ( which can be used as a dac ) that much better? I intend to use it for a high quality music file transport to my secondary system that doesn't have an expensive DAC, as well as using on other systems. Would you all say that it is worth it?

Ooops, just saw you essentially asked the same question I did. My additional concern over yours, since you have 1st gen, is that the X3 II also has line out DAC. So to me it looks like the upgrade is in headphone power out and storage capability.
