Is the fiio e17 a good choice to use as a fix dac/amp? I don't intend to move it and I don't want to have to recharge it all the time. Is there a way to use it without using the battery or without discharging it?

Jean-PascalBasically you could hook it to your computer and use it as a desktop amp/dac. But it will continuously charge from USB when connected, which will degrade the battery over time.
But if you don't plan on using it as portable at all, just get the E10 (or a different combo entirely, if you can afford to).
What headphones are you using ?

LQDForceI am using soundmagic hp100 and I find it quite difficult to find a dac/amp with an output impedance less than 4 ohms to respect the 1/8 rule of thumb. This one has a low output impedance and the only others I found that seems interesting in this aspect are the ifi Idac, hrt microstreamer and the modi/magni combo, but 100$ would be a better price range for me. So as long as the battery does not degrade enough to make it useless I don't mind, but I don't really want to have to change the battery after 2-3 years because it's plugged all the time. I still love the small form factor so that I could bring it to the job sometime without the need to unplug many cables. And the E10 is just an amp, I want a dac/amp combo

Jean-PascalI get you now. Go for the E17 then, looks like it's the right call for you.

Jean-PascalThe Fiio E10 is a DAC/Amp combo. It's a slightly lower grade DAC than the one in the E17, the amp isn't as powerful either. If you can swing it I'd still recommend the E17, but if you need to save as much as possible the E10 could possibly fit the bill. I'd get the E17 for the versatility and better components myself.
