So a follow up for any 'droppers on the fence for next time: I am loving these cans! I wanted an upgrade from my Grado 325i's - something with the same detail and clarity but with a little less harshness on very trebly tracks, a bit more punch and resonance in the bass regions and more comfort for extended sessions. All achieved and more!
Recommended IMHO
PoisonPoisonTastyfishComfort question: do they make your ears sweat? And are they about the same weight as the metal cupped Grado 325? Part of what makes the 325 uncomfortable over long listening sessions is the "on ear-ish" type/shape/texture of the earpads, but overall not too bad when compared to real heavyweights (LCDs).
CompassionatorMy ears are probably "average" in size and protrusion and these cups fit completely over them and rest on my head only. Extended sessions or summer ambient temperatures can cause a bit of aural clamminess, but they are not too bad. They are definitely weighty, but to a satisfying degree IMHO and I find them pretty comfortable with the thicker pads - certainly more so than my Grado 325is. Initial placement takes a few shifts to get them perfectly seated, but all in all I am very happy with the fit, which was one of my major concerns in the original Drop.
I also notice no real difference in the sound between the two sets of pads unlike many others here (or at least not a difference to worry about!) Perhaps I am just cloth-eared or maybe I need to spend some time exhaustively A/B-ing to hear the flaws, but life is too short and I love the sound of these cans.
For the most part I run them hooked up to my Macbook Pro via a Centrance DACPort (they work great straight from the laptop jack though) with Audivarna Plus as my player/source and they consistently deliver hour after hour of sweet, detailed listening pleasure.
Interestingly I did buy a DacPort Slim in the recent drop, but I find the Sonorous are so sensitive (or the Slim deficient in quality!) that I can hear a faint but unmistakable hiss/noise floor which I don't get from my original DacPort, so you may find them too sensitive for some sources.
I was also impressed with how well they performed plugged straight into my iPhone 6s Plus playing 256k AAC files - most unexpectedly good!
Love em.
