Seems the 11.8V battery drain limit on the power kit is too low for most places, according to a chart I read on Dashcamtalk you are looking at 60-75% battery drain before it hits 11.8V for about 80-90% of the world. I suppose simply switching off the camera when you don't plan to drive the car too much makes more sense than buying the power kit.

VSG28@VSG28 do you have a link off hand? I'd like to see the charts / data for this. My car sometimes sits for a full day or two at an apartment complex.
