I have 3 of these. They're certainly not the best imo. If you have an older Hifiman headphone with the awful connectors and stock cables that like to break... this isn't the stand for you. Luckily I have my stand close enough to the edge of my desk so the cables can drop off the edge, otherwise I fear they could kink and/or break. This is a non issue for my headphones with detachable cables though. As for moving the middle rod to the side... mine unscrew on both sides, you can keep it in the middle or move to either side. My old Beyerdynamic DT990's cable is so stiff and thick it absolutely didn't work. The stock HD600 cable is much more flexible and works as intended/ quite well. Those concerned about the feet scratching your desk... I've not noticed it happen on my IKEA desk, YMMV. Those concerned about headbands developing some indents in headband or it's padding... I think it depends on the weight and distribution; I always line my pairs up even/level/parallel to the desk. OCD more than anything.
I do think there are better alternatives to this stand. I'd buy an alternative if I didn't already have 3 of these. Their weight makes it less worth it to resell them. Oh well. I'll live. It still beats having my headphones lay on a dusty surface.
Not exclusively the stand, but some functional pics of what to expect: http://imgur.com/a/L5Izb + http://imgur.com/a/1o8cs + http://imgur.com/lN5DGaa http://imgur.com/4APkJ4j

socks_OCDSave yourself some desk space and combine some of those silver bars to attach them onto both sides of the top end to be able to hang two or more headphone on a combined stand. I fixed you're not sure what I mean, then I'll try adding a pic here later.
