Recent Activity
I know this thread is 2 yrs old, but I recently bought a 5150 because I wanted a one piece blade out of Elmax.  I bought a FirstEdge 5155 Field Knife direct from the mfg. (It's on sale black/ black for $180 and their knives ship free) They accidentally sent me the wrong color handle in green and while they offered to swap it for the black/black I kept the green. They also gave me a %20 off code for next purchase, which I will use for for either the modified tanto assisted opener as an EDC, the 6050 hunter (as a camp knife.) The 5050 survival knife seems redundant to the knife I own. I am happy with the purchase, but haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I watched a bunch of videos on the 5050 and 5150 and have no intention of beating my knives for no reason. While it was plenty sharp from the factory (ie: shaved hairs off my arm, I resharpened it to 25° per side (i think factory was 30°?) Personal preference. I would likely leave a camp/workhorse knife at the factory angle with just a little touch-up on the sharpening. The quality seems excellent and well thought out. The kydex sheath is a bit bulky, as they use two halves instead of a folded design for durability. required by the Navy SEALS. I would personally prefer something a little more compact, as I am not a navy SEAL, and do not expect it to see the same conditions of use. It seems the original drop and prices were more expensive and idk why they even offered 420ss, first edge only makes Elmax blades now. Personally, I think they are currently very competitively priced with other elmax fixed bladed knives of similar size. I did some research before buying mine, and first edge won out.
