Googling around has shown that firstedge makes knives for the Navy Seals their knives are extremely corrosion resistant . These knives were $300 dollars last year. Why are they so cheap now ? I found 2 different reviews that say these blades chip easily ,a common problem with Elmax steel which is why Benchmade won't work with Elmax. One review was a Amazon customer the other was budgetbugout on YouTube .

Jessevr1Supply (high) and demand (low) is likely the driving force for the pricing. Most any knife is going to have an actual production cost far below the MSRP, and the market is going to dictate the asking price. Having looked at these a year ago, I would venture a guess that the negative reviews regarding chipping/tip strength and the subsequent slow sales have driven it down. That issue aside, seems like pretty reasonable pricing for what you get at this point.

Jessevr1A lot of it depends on the heat treat. I recently bought the 5150 field knife, and it seems pretty durable. there's a few videos I found of people beating the crap out of first edge elmax steel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI7Hotnklh0&lc=z23axzfzrsjxy11ga04t1aokg2vaxxrjt22q14sdlhgdbk0h00410.1540619217750857

idoc72The modified tanto blade geometry is supposed to address the tip strength issue- however, even first edge says that the tips (on the folders) aren't designed for prying. The one piece survival knives and field knives held up in tester videos to prying, but they are heavier and thicker. blades.
