The folks behind Firsthand Supply started with a problem: They couldn’t find a pomade that gave them the results they wanted using the ingredients they wanted—so they spent a year making their own. Then they asked themselves what else they could make, and in a small apartment in Beverly, Massachusetts, Firsthand Supply was born Read More
I have an L. L. Bean coat made of this kind of fabric (made by a fabric mill called the British Millerain Co.). Wax cloth historically was used in raincoats and the like. It sounded really cool and retro to me.
However, it turns out that the stuff is literally cloth impregnated with wax. For the first season that I owned the coat the wax got on everything. I wondered why the front of my jeans was so unclean feeling, like I hadn't washed them in months (but the rest of the jean fabric was fine). I finally figured out that anything that touched the coat was getting a fine coating of wax on it. The problem subsided the second year.
Thus, I wouldn't pack this thing next to anything made of fabric or anything that you don't want to get waxy.
The particular coat in question was one of L. L. Bean's shortest lived models. Pity. It was a cool coat if they could have made it out of another material.
Cloacafwiw, i have a waxcloth messenger bag that rests right on my rear/hip five days a week, no problem. i think your concern is legitimate (i worried before buying the bag i purchased from cedar waxcraft), but it seems not all waxcloth has this issue. hopefully the wax is not an issue with this dopp bag.
i got had....I cant believe how tiny this bag is--Lesson learned read the fine print!! Why would anyone want a dopp half the size of a normal travel bathroom bag??? LAME
