I worked as an an outdoor equipment expert for a while.
I'm a huge fan of Fjallraven (winter fox) gear. It's more durable and versatile than most stuff on the market.
The backpack is: 1) Unisex: meaning, not optimal. Men and women have different chests and hips. I've never seen a truly "universal" pack that gets both sets of needs right. For some individuals, though, it would work just fine. But if you're a person with wide hips or a wide chest, you'd really want to know more about the fit, from experience, before you'd buy.
2) Fjallraven has stores in the USA, and in my experience, it's not an Atlantic-sized wait to get product.
3) The pack is 600D polyester, so it's not a cotton/poly blend like most Fjallraven, and can't be waxed to waterproof. You'll need a duck's back for this one.
4) Birch seems like a good choice for the frame, and the other design decisions (like the bifurcated hipbelt), seem really well executed.

I'm personally a slightly smaller than average guy (5'11" and 160lbs), so this pack is a good buy for me. I can be assured I'd fall within the nominal parameters for a user. The brand name, intelligent construction, and materials appeal to me.
As I said, you really would want to know more if you have wide hips or a wide chest. Otherwse, it's an excellent gamble.

rkm_84Fjällräven actually means something more along the lines of "mountain fox", rather than "winter fox" (which would have been "vinterräv"). The more you know.

rkm_84At first I thought this pack used a thicker version of the material on their smaller Kånken backpacks; Vinylon F http://www.fjallraven.com/guides/material-guides/vinylon-f But apparently not anymore. Weird. It does still have the matte look though.
On its own it is quite heavy as a backpack (3.2 Kg) but the finish and numerous smaller features such as the ability to completely open up the front like a suitcase makes it much more useful for things like trekking and vacation backpacking. The heavy padding around the hips and the strong frame make this a very comfortable backpack for heavier loads such as with winter trekking.
