This new tuning focused trend that I've seem from IEMs seems really interest, but I'm curious as to how these actually sound and if EQ could have equivalent effects with less effort.
I reviewed the originals of these back on my written blog and the tuning is great. You'll often get a slightly better result from the tuning than EQ because EQ is rarely implemented without some (at least slight) degree of signal degradation. On top of that, the changes to the dynamic driver vent (one of the tuning methods) are changing the physical movement characteristics of the driver, not just the frequency response so there will be subtle changes in character that EQ can't produce. Whether they make it worthwhile is another question of course.
If these really are identical with just different cases, they're a great IEM and with a listen.
