OK, how is this a bargain? Amazon has this for $121.20. If you're a Prime member you get free 2 day shipping. Just not seeing many deals any more on Massdrop. You pay more on here and pray you will see your item with in 2 month's.

Spartan123I think you have confused the concept of capitalism and consumerism. No one ever said massdrop was a 'bargain' site - they peddle products created by others and leverage buying tiers based on quantity of customers. Amazon has some major leveraging power that Massdrop cannot have - though in a 'group buy' they can mostly guarantee they'll meet a vendors unit value for tier pricing. Like any consumer you should buy from whom you trust, wish to succeed, want to 'give your money to', or gives you the best bargain. Amazon isn't always the same price for all regions and your shopping experience may differ from others using that vendor. Note: Massdrop is excellent for boutique vendors where the group buy quantity is known/given (it's also the best for you as a customer in this regard - where a custom item may be cheaper than a one off) ultimately though any 'factory produced' (or mass produced item) is going to be competitive across the consumer base.

Spartan123Exactly, all outofmemory is saying is that massdrop can't get as good of price as amazon because of buying power, and that massdrop is better for the seller, but I will say that massdrop has decent price cuts on expensive items like TVs

Spartan123Depends on from which vantage point - from theirs, like any business to make money - hopefully bring value to their customers so they return. From your standpoint, that depends on how much money you want to spend - I'd go with Amazon if you can get it faster and cheaper...if that's important to you. But also remember, the owner of Amazon made over $90,000 dollars in the time it took you to read this, and like $270k in the time it took me to type it! Me personally I'd go to the cheapest vendor - but I'm a cheap $h17! :)

Spartan123Sorry to be more clear: Boutique vendors (as I said) are the way to go here - something hand crafted where the crafter wonders when he'll get his next sale is a lot different than a vendor knowing he's going to get 100+ orders and have business for weeks (or months). Otherwise they're just a distributor - one with a low overhead that can sometimes save its customers money. Basically all the 'filler crap' before the good drops just keeps them in business to keep the 'good crap' coming - more often than not their 'normal stuff' is stuff that didn't perform well on the marketplace and they're buying it for 60% off retail - they mark it up and make money. Sometimes they also have to offer products to keep their business relationships maintained. As someone said: Knives, keyboards - EVERYTHING handmade (down hat's, handkerchiefs, etc.) - camping/ultralight (some exceptionally knowledgeable folks there) - group buys on keycap sets (ever priced just one set? $200+ for a key run). If they offer a niche item that they use to keep their doors open - and you want it...great, score...right?!? But don't throw away good money for bad - if you can get it elsewhere, faster and cheaper - even they'd laugh (happily to the bank) at you! :)

outofmemoryPerhaps some of the best, most well thought out responses ever to explain why some deals here are great, and some are just average sales

Spartan123Walmart has the same for $118.94 no tax, I believe free shipping also! It’s always good to look before you leap.

GunsYup, actually Massdrop has made me more aware of what I am buying. I see something nice on here and i instantly look at other sites to see what it is available for. Most times I have the item within a few days compared to 6 weeks from buying it on here. If I don't find it on other sites than MD gets my business. But as far as my initial comment... Again, what is the point of MD if most items I can get from another place for the same or a few $$'s more and not have to wait 6 weeks to get my item? It is an honest question that has never required a 2 paragraph answer. Might add, the majority of items on here are NOT boutique items etc. They are every day items you can find easily from other vendors.

outofmemoryGreat for the owner of Amazon. Obviously he has one fantastic business model. I also go to the cheapest and fastest vendor I can find. I work hard for my money and spend it wisely and do not care to wait forever to get what I pay for.

Spartan123I agree on all points made. I’ve purchased a handful of knives from here but not so much in the last year. I’ve not stopped purchasing knives though. I bought a SOG on line today. I’ll keep checking in on MD as I have, every month or two, they’ve had some good deals & cool knives!
