How about putting a JDS Atom and a Khadas tone board in a headphone stand and charging $250? Better performance, not a rip off.
andrewdavis7Can you point me to a review or tests for this particular unit? Since you assert that the Atom and Tone board are "better" I would like to know what information you are basing this on. My gut tells me you get your assertion from one particular site that hasn't "reviewed" or measured this device. The same site who tested a busted Valhalla and said they couldn't tell a subjective difference. What is "best" for one person is not "best" for all. This hobby is very personal and stripping it down to singular tribal "best" is shorting your own audio journey IMO.

andrewdavis7I visited Munich High-End Show 2019 and listened to this particular dac/amp. And I was amazed about the level of sound it delivers. It competes with 1000-1500 usd price range dac/amps easely. Also I suggest you visit manufacturer's website and check out photos of what's inside. There are top quality components all over the board. It has features like "isolator bridge" and uses high-end Amanero usb interface. The headphone amplifier section uses Muses 01 op-amp...etc
Artem_NovikovHeadfonics or headfonia did a review on their upper end model. It looks like a Simaudio Moon and from the review appears to sound a bit like it as well. Not that I'm looking to blow 5000 on an integrated DAC at the moment but this company could get interesting. For me the headphone stand is not needed but there may be folks that like it.

ElectronicVices"shortening his audio journey" I mean sure sometimes I just yank a few hundred bucks out of my bank and light it on fire for fun, too! LMAO. As someone who has spent and regretted spending THOUSANDS on audio in recent years I'll say this; there is objectively dac/amp setups under 200 dollars that sound as good as things 10x their price range. But in all seriousness, I checked out their site. They don't even list anything else besides output power and ~0.1Ω as their specs, along with the AKM chip they use. EXCUSE ME what?? LMAO This amp isn't even that powerful, jesus christ, look at the Atom at 99 dollars. All the fancy tech in this 750 unit aside, the atom is disgustingly clean at an obviously friendlier price point. Guarantee if u AB an atom with a d10 (170 setup) against this you won't hear jack crap for difference, 10/10. I've compared the atom against standalone amps at 6x it's pricepoint and it goes toe to toe with them. But hey you get a fancy aluminum chassis and a headphone stand that'll likely get in the way of your monitors or something right?

Artem_NovikovI would just go for a Chord Mojo and a headphone stand at this price. Really, what is an example this could battle against an over $1500 DAC/AMP like, I don't know, an Audio-GD R-27, a Soekris 1101, Hugo2 or even a Khadas Tone Board? The parts are nothing special, even the $350 R2R11 has more power, even a $200 has that DAC chip, the power is not also anything special. Heck, the price to performance rartio of this thing is as depressing as the $55000 gold-plated audio Cabinet. Do you even know what's an isolator bridge? (BTW, I do know, it means a piece of the motherboard connects to a daughter board in order to prevent Hum from the back-current of an electrolytic capacitors. But there is no need for one in my honest opinion since the Delta-Sigma chips themselves are not prone to interference.) Just what makes this special aside from being a very overpriced headphone stand?

ElectronicVices@ElectronicVices, you make a good point. Let's give it the benefit of the doubt and assume the Flux amp is powerful and transparant? Then I'll change "better performance to "equal performance" ...and it's still a rip off. 🤪 It sure is a good looking stand, though!!

KhronusI have compared it to Yulong da10 and Questyle cma400i. The power isn't everything you need when you apply it to the sound. I listened to less powered amps so many times and they sound much better then those with greater numbers on advertising pamphlet. Digital isolator bridge eliminates ground loops and reduces noise from your digital source. Maybe you heard some buzzes when you move mouse in your headphones. So this IB made to eliminate those. Back-current of an electrolytic capacitors are nothing to do with that.

Artem_NovikovMy bad on the bridge then, thanks for the correction! Yulong and Questyle... Well, I now see why you think this sounds better than $1500 amps. It's the same case of overpricitis, another example being people saying the R2R 11 defeats the Metrum Amethyst, or the AAA 789 beats essentially everyting except Benchmark's THX headphone amplifier. I know more power doesn't mean better sound, if that was the case a mid-fi Crown or Behringer would sound better than a Carver Raven or a Benchmark AH-B2, or that because iFi's iCan pro can do 14W doesn't mean it will sound better than class leaders* (THX-based amps or tube rolled Cayin Amps). Specs are clearly not everything, if that was the case, R2R DACs and Tube amps would be utmost trash (Which definitely are not unless you are a supreme purist). Furthermore, just because a piece of equipment can beat something 2 or 3 times it's price, it doesn't mean is an absolute giant killer everybody should buy. For in this hobby many companies will amp up the prices in order to attract the snobs. (Just look up Carver Challenge, and you'll understand what I mean.)
  • *Note: Unless the headphone in question is a K1000 or a HE-6.

KhronusTo put it shortly. You should read the book. And then judge it.
Artem_Novikov@Uzuzu if that was a comment my way, I turned off your comments. You've reiterated your very strong, very unique view on things enough I didn't need to see it posted repeatedly.

ElectronicVices@ElectronicVices next time a mouthbreather like yourself with a narcissistic inferiority complex decides to mute somebody because your snowflake feelings have been triggered, do it privately without notice like an adult would, instead of posting it to a public forum, you absolute miscreant.
andrewdavis7You missed my point which was you have no experience with this product, no measurements, no reviews and are asserting that everyone that enjoys listening to music should just buy an Atom and a tone board. My assertion is to reserve judgement until you have more than a product description and a regurgitation of info from ASR to base your assertions on. Those that deal in absolutes are not going to get much love from me. There is a growing arrogance amongst new users that seem to revel in group think and tribal BS... a trend I take issue with. What 25+ years of enjoying recorded music has taught me is the only answer to "what should I buy/add/change?" is "It depends..."

andrewdavis7"those that deal in absolutes aren't going to get much love from me" Is ElectronicVices Obi-Wan-Kenobi? LOL "There is a growing arrogance amongst new users" haha, ignore this ElectronicVices guy.. he's an elitist snob talking out of his rear who thinks he knows what he's talking about. Now more than ever, it's easy to jump into the audiophile hobby and reach end-game like performance for dirt cheap, relatively speaking and it upsets him. These elitists who think money in their gear makes them better than other humans, and the companies that make these products, both want to keep an upper ceiling for the high end gear so people will shell out thousands. It's funny because it isn't arrogance driving new users, it's smart consumerism. Even youtube reviewers such as Z Reviews (whom I don't like so much) was astounded by the ATOM and said it's all you need, and he's listened to virtually every amp on the market. He says people are following tribal BS, when it's him in the clouds thinking he's posh and that a 100 dollar amp is just too beneath him. You are 100 percent not arrogant bro, the numbers and thousands of reviews along with top youtube reviewers and objectively measured reviews by unbiased third parties all agree that the atom smashed the ceiling with amp cost to performance. You are a smart consumer and I like to see people waking up to the snake-oil, good on you! don't take the hate from this guy

ElectronicVicesI didn't miss your point Evee, I just disagree. I don't need to audition every single headphone amp on the market to have a valid opinion on diminishing returns. Especially considering the stellar performance of newer gear like the Atom or the 789. I am not reveling in tribal groupthink, nor am I new. I developed my understanding of subconscious bias and the senses in the mid nineties at the University of California. I bought my first pair of B&W's (CDM 7NT's) soon thereafter, and have loved recorded music for decades. You and your worldview are clearly threatened by some new idea here, but I'm not it. This probably a good headphone DAC/amp. Maybe even a great one. But there is less and less room for audible improvement in the category, and these days world class gear can be had for a fraction of the price. If spending much more on the Flux amp makes someone happy or validates them somehow, then fantastic. But (whatever it's performance) this amp has a low performance-to-cost in the context of today's audio market. Or, to put it another way: a rip off.

ElectronicVicesWhy would you bother to argue with these folks? They obviously know everything already. Because they read it on the internet. 😉 And you can tell from their baseless claims about you that they've honed their arguing skills in the internet also. By that I mean you're wasting your breath, and your time. Just be glad you're not them, and enjoy your own audio journey my friend. I also recommend finding another site to converse with your fellow audiophiles. They're not all so close minded as this one. Have a good day my friend. Peace. ✌️

amb3cogHe has a point, amb. EV and I were both presenting our qualifications (such as they are) and articulating well-reasoned arguments; if a bit testily. You, on the other hand, chimed in to call me a internet-educated know-nothing and cheerlead for your perceived "side." That's hardly the act of a thinker.

andrewdavis7I was referring to the other jerk Luzer, err I mean Uzuzu, not you. Not sure why you thought I was specifically talking to you, but I certainly was not. You noticed he was the first to reply right? 😉
andrewdavis7Oh I am not threatened by anything mostly just saddened by the death of independent thought brought on by a movement whereby people try to boil down the entire experience to a few statistics and "rank" gear. I settled in to my own paradigm for audio purchases several years back and believe people should find their own. I've been much happier doing that than following somebody else version of "best'. That paradigm is NOT ironclad and I am most certainly open to changes. Hell, never would have paid more than 10 dollars for cables in the past, I've slightly changed that stance and the non-exotic stuff with a bit more shielding and better terminations is actually worth the cost to me at this point. I see this site going the way of head-fi, SBAF, and others. A group think mentality develops and anyone or anything that differs from the "communal knowledge" is a "rip-off/crap/garbage/troll" etc and invites flames from all sorts of blind followers who defend the that paradigm to their graves. No one can completely avoid their biases, all you can do is attempt to understand them. What many fail to incorporate into their assessment is the user experience. I don't care how wonderful it sounds if I don't enjoy interacting with the damn thing. And nobody should let Uzuzu bother them basically boils down to "IEMS are the devil"... "You/that/someone is ridiculous/crazy talk"... "everyone should do X" like Uzuzu does. Rinse and repeat.
