A while back I purchased some Dekoni fenestrated sheepskin pads for my Elear. I thought they brought out the somewhat sunken mids a bit.
Will the Elex pads make my Elears sound like Clears? ;-) ;-)
Realistically, I suppose they would probably sound like the Elex.
What would be the advantages of the Elex sound profile over Elear?
Soundwise, how would these Elex pads compare to Dekoni, to Elear pads? Lows, mids highs? Detail retrieval? Soundstage? Neutrality? Musically?
Audionut22I bought some for my Elears, it will make them sound pretty much identical to the Elex since they are essentially the exact same driver... The Clear has a copper voice coil in the driver which the Elear and Elex do not have.

Audionut22The clear will be better all around simply because it has a more advanced driver than the Elear/Elex.
The Elear and the Elex are the same headphone except for pads, accessories, styling... so if you put the Elex pads on the Elear, it will sound the exact same.
Full details of all the differences can be read here by someone who, for whatever reason, owns all the Focals:

dcd564Is there any proof of internal dampening? Seems the quote is referring to dampening schemes between pads, not headphones. Just curious because I haven't come across any evidence since they launched, not even in the modding communities.
HealsYup that was my impressions as well, when they referred to tweaking the internal dampening scheme it was with the inside of the pads. If you look at the Focal pads, they all have a unique type of inner ring. This is one major reason why none of the Dekoni pads made for Focal headphones give the same sounds as the Focal pads - as none of the Dekoni pads adopt this design within the inner ring of the pads and instead they just wrap the entire pad in the same material and design as the outside of the pad which changes the sound.
A common misconception is also that Elex Pads = Clear Pads minus the colour.... they are pretty darn close to the same but colour aside, they are still ever so slightly different in how they are manufactured. Still close enough for me though :)
I know there is one user on here that always brings up the dampening when people compare the Elex to other Focal headphones, but I don't think they are aware of what Will really meant when he referred to dampening adjustments. I think he is Mattis something - but I am 99% positive its just the internal dampening on the inside of the pads that is adjusted from the Elear and Elex... I know for a fact that the Elear pads are nothing like the Elex and are very basic. I changed my pads on my Elear and it's a totally different sound.
Muscle_CowPeople also seem to keep leaving out the damping changes from the headband and cable. For the Elex, these are both different than what's offered in the Elear and plays a small role, too.
I won't even get into the Clear = Elex pad as from what Will has said, I trust his word about them over anyone else since this was his collab. Folks have said the same about the Clear Pros and they're exactly the same too, just a different color. Dunno why folks thinks Focal would go through the hassle of all these variations of the same from a manufacturing/production standpoint when it's easy to change the color and vary the exact product by price.
