Our primary method for finding enthusiast products to bring to the community here is the polling section of our site. We ask the community to vote on the products they would like to see listed and then we do our best to work with the vendor to organize a group buy for the top vote-getting product on those polls.
For this particular product, we started the poll (https://www.massdrop.com/vote/foreverspin-spinning-tops) because we had an extremely successful drop for the Titanium top from ForeverSpin. The top vote-getter from that poll was the Tungsten top, and it wasn't particularly close.
Even though this top got the most votes, we recognized that it had a much narrower appeal than the lower-cost tops they offer (it takes a pretty big metal nerd to appreciate Tungsten's unique properties). So, we negotiated on behalf of the community to bring down the total number of participants needed to get this pricing.
I know that this top isn't for everyone, but please be assured that we are always listening to the community and that is why you are seeing this one here today.
