I have one of these but with the tanto blade. If that was an option I'd steer people towards that option.

What's the point of a tanto karambit? If you want a tanto blade, get a tanto blade. There's no need for a tanto on a knife meant for self defense.

There is need for it on a knife for self-defense, because with the classic curved blade it's almost impossible to stab (not just to inflict damage but also to to control the assailants movement by stabbing into the arm/shoulder and move into the wanted direction...). Also cutting is more easy with a straight blade, recurved ones need circular sweeps, otherwise they will "scrape" which results in a less deep cut, straight ones can be moved linear (get some meat and test it...). Only downside is that straight blades lack the capability to hook or capture, it's a trade. Overall I prefer straight blade karambits.

its probably a kershaw emerson, a cqc tanto with the wave opening system, not a karambit

Here is Doug Marcaida's new Karambit, the DART (available for to vote for under the poll "Straight Blade Karambit"). This is the EDC straight blade Karambit I mentioned earlier. I'd much rather carry this than a curved blade.

I carry that as well, at least if I wear pants with pockets where large CS folders wont fit ;D
