Yeah? Good looking out. They seem to work with some interesting steels and materials but until everyone involved with that has their 10k hours under their belt, it's just one more thing that makes 'em screw stuff up. Still, good on 'em digging in and making an effort.

reswrighti think i'm gonna try survive knives next. i heard they put wayyyyyy too much hand finishing into their products, which makes me very interested lol. i do want to keep a bark river knife in my collection/rotation, but just not this one.

I’m a sucker for a good looking fixed blade. And I guess part of the allure for this knife is the exposed tang beyond the wood scales that provides that contrasting ‘trim’ line all across the perimeter of the handle that says “I am ALL metal and I’m ready to give you all I got!” Cool. But my first thought that accompanies this look is what this knife will feel like in the hand while using it. I’m referring to the ‘hot spots’ this design will very likely generate (Manalang and others mentioned this in earlier comments). I feel like I would need to wear a glove to use this knife for any extended time. Bring out the scales flush with the tang, and I would be all over this knife, perhaps two to gift one of them. Nonetheless, still considering this knife if I can find a review that addresses this.

Very reminiscent of the Boker Plus Rold and Rold Scout, other Voxnaes designs. The 6in Rold had a much more prominent choil and the 4.5in Rold Scout had profile a lot like this blade. Both were made of D2.

That choil has me scratching my head too. Would much rather have the extra blade length there.

Seems to be a larger fixed blade version of the Vox designed Fox Tur (one of my favorite knives to EDC). Definitely wish the handle material was micarta and the blade steel was Elmax (like the CF Tur I own), but I'm definitely intrigued at this price pt. Like others have said (and also like the Tur), the choil just cant decide if it wants to be finger choil or a sharpening choil. That is the biggest drawback of this design IMO. I would prefer it to be big enough (and shaped) to fit a finger, but I know others would prefer it be a small sharpening choil, or even with no choil at all.

Anyone here have any experience with N690Co knives in this size? How is the edge retention on this stuff? From what Ive read, a 4" blade would be the max for this type of alloy, and def NOT an all purpose outdoor knife. This seems like a really cute knife, and I love the size, but it probably would benefit from a better set of scales and sheath. If I could get a better idea of the metal, I'd be interested in giving it a shot.

eneroVg10 440c n690... and I'd even say sandvik are close to similar performing steels. They get a great edge, will need to be sharpened more than an s35vn or elmax(comparing staiess here..) but hold up to regular use fairly well. Unless the heat treat is bad, in wich case it doesnt matter the blade steel it will drastically underperform a properly treated knife.

Close but wrong. A lot of people get this one wrong, including your humble narrator for years.
  • N695 is chemically identical to 440C steel. There is no difference between the formulas used to produce these steels.
  • N690 is chemically very similar to VG-10, but different. Identical to an Aichi steel called XA-18, which outperforms VG-10 in cut tests.
  • N690 and N695 are unrelated steels.
  • And N690Co isn't a different alloy from or an improved version of N690, just a different marketing name.

I wish they got rid of that ricasso/baby finger choil. Just extend the blade close to the handle with a small sharpening choil and this would be an awesome knife. Aside from it being pretty, it’s pretty useless.

ok, this is a pretty good deal, and i would totally buy this if i wasnt saving up for another knife in mind. regular price is 170$, drop managed to get it down to 100$. pricing like this is why i joined in the first place! but what a short description.... a no nonsense knife with a no nonsense description. kind of prefer how little marketing there is on the knife, but wish there were more factual descriptions about, say if the spine is ground at a 90degree angle.

I agree.... The handle just looks like a hot spot generating machine.
