This modestly sized dress watch from Swiss maker Frédérique Constant won’t overpower anybody’s wrist. Polished from head to toe, it features a stainless steel case and sapphire crystal. The dial, laid out with a combination of Arabic numerals and trapezoidal markers, has a slightly grainy texture to it when viewed up close—but you won’t see it at a glance. The expanded date window offers a view of the previous and next day, in addition to the current one, of course. Inside the case lies the brand’s own FC-303 automatic movement, providing a power reserve of 38 hours fully charged. The partial display caseback shows just a peek at the movement, rather than the whole thing. Also worthy of a mention? The 60-meter water resistance rating, a number not often seen on timepieces.
The Frédérique Constant name comes from the two great grandparents of each of its founders: Frédérique Schreiner and Constant Stas—the latter of which began printing watch dials in 1904. Independent and family owned, this Geneva, Switzerland–based company puts a high emphasis on design, continually evolving to offer the most innovative technical features in its timepieces. Founded in 1988, it’s been exhibiting at the World Watch, Clock, and Jewelry Show since 1995. Each of its watches is assembled by hand, and undergoes a rigorous set of quality control checks before being finished.
