Good lens. Obviously not as great as their 35 1.4 or 56 1.2. However it is much better than the similar Canon 40mm f2.8.
While it's not as over the top great as some other Fuji lenses, the compact form factor means that it's one of two lenses which always live on my X-T3. The other being the similarly compact XF18 f2.
Tis points up what I don't like about the XF27. All the other X system lenses I own have an iris ring. Which is a hurdle to overcome when transitioning from a Canon or Nikon DSLR. On those cameras the manual iris is only found on 3rd party lenses. So you get used to using a wheel when you are in aperture priority or manual mode.
Now that I'm accustomed to Fuji's way, having one lens and one lens only that has me reverting to the 'Canon way' of controlling iris feels awkward and out of place.
Half the time I forget and fumble around for the right control!
Still, it's a good price for a decent lens. It's the only lens that allows me to fit the camera in my coat pocket.
ps. now if Fuji could only make a decent lens cap.
Bought this lens for my daughter who recently got into photography. She absolutely love the compact size and its sharpness vs her zoom lenses, even though she likes her zooms as well. The lens isn't ultra fast but faster than her zoom lenses so it lets her shoot in low light conditions as well.
Incredibly sluggish and finicky autofocus. Might be better with a newer camera, but terrible when paired with the X-Pro1. A mediocre lens at best with nothing to distinguish it from far less expensive lenses.
