I've got some old Tannoy DC2000s with rated efficiency of 92db/w/m. Would they be efficient enough to be driven by this little baby? Don't need to go too loud. Cheers

lardylI think you would be happy pairing those speakers with this amp. I was on a budget and currently have a pair of Jamo S 801’s. They have a sensitivity of only 85db and it’s plenty for me.

lardylThe mouse powers the mountains... I had my modded APPJ PA0901A powering KLF-20's, so I could hear what they could sound like with an SET... it lured me to buy a 300B amp... careful it could happen to you... it normally powers RB-61 II's,, you will not push yourself back against a wall with the Tannoy's,, but you will hear some sweet sound,, it's the first watt that counts...

lardylCool. Thanks.
lardylYou're being misled. Unless you sit a meter away from your speakers and play music with a narrow dynamic range at fairly low volume, this won't do it for you. Remember, the 2.5W rating is for 4 Ohm. They don't list the power available for 6 Ohm (which your Tannoys are), but it's less.

EverlastingUpliftWent down the Burson route in the end with a Bang for power amp duties and it runs my third pair of floor standers (Castle Sterling 3s) just fine, but it's rated at 29W into 8 ohms. Thanks for the advice guys.

Lardy_ellIf you truly want to look back into tubes, go SET, this is what I got for speakers with the external capacitor bank & upgrades; used from Cary direct. Then I plugged my cans into it,, just to check it out of course,, serendipity happens... it is (one of) the ultimate head amps, a sleeper... This with your Tannoy's, they would make quite a pair... One B-stock on sale, with upgrades: https://carydirect.com/b-stock/cad-300sei-204.html

An older version is available used (re-cap'd?): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cary-AES-300-B-SE-1-Tube-Amplifier-in-Excellent-Condition-w-Copy-of-Manual/283470223641?hash=item4200245919:g:91cAAOSwYqVcymlg&frcectupt=true
