These are pretty comfortable shoes right out of the box. There's an odd upturned toe that I thought would be annoying, but it quickly either fades away, or proves to be the better choice. They are truly waterproof! They're also quite nice looking. Going from splashing through the back woods creeks to dinner on the town isn't impossible with these nice shoes.
Great spring and fall shoe for muddy, mucky, slushy days. Very comfortable and breathable so totally wearable on the nicest of days. And great for day hikes.
really great fit. no hot spots at all. I've clocked in about 20 miles or so with a 50lb ruck and these Garmont Trail Beast Plus Low GTX (name is too long) have been great. I'm a fan!
Garmont has been my go-to boots brand for over a decade. I purchased my first pair of Garmont boots in 2006, a few months before backpacking the Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainier. They broke in relatively quickly and molded very nicely to my feet. The trip was 107 miles (including side treks) with over 22,000 feet of elevation gain. Despite the hard use and the rough terrain, and the boots held up admirably. More recently, I was looking for a lighter trail shoe when I found these. They have the exact same build quality as my previous Garmonts, which is a huge compliment to the brand. Most companies chose to put out slightly beefed-up tennis shoes for this market segment. Garmont instead crafted a pair of durable and lightweight low-top boots with a remarkably sturdy sole and great balance. While these weigh a good deal less than my previous Garmont boots, they still have the same sturdiness. This helps decrease the impact on the foot, which is especially important on longer treks. If you are looking for a good pair of lightweight hiking or backpacking shoes and don't have a need for ankle support, these armont Trail Beast Low GTXs are one of the best options out there.
Blue Suede, yeah!
A little snug @11.5 US, while my Merrels are a little loose @ 11.5 US.
Firm sole, rear sloped, so my foot feels like it is sliding to the toe end. While the sole feels stable, I would only recomend for lite hiking. I fear the mud with these shoes, while I stomp puddles still in my Merrels. I have not gotten them dirty yet, but I do not think they will clean up easy. I may update in a few months after a soon trip to the southwest, where I will be hiking advanced trails.
I've been wearing them every day, all day at work for almost 2 weeks and they are still not broken in well. That may be an indication as to how durable they are. I think the size is a little small but there are no hot spots and I can live with them. Looking forward to trying them on the trail. They do look great and give very good support.
These shoes continue to remain my daily shoes for jeans in the office and the weekends around the house. I needed a comfortable good looking shoe that I could wear with jeans and a button down and look causal in, but still have tread and grip if I needed to sprint short distances, or walk over mixed terrain. These shoes are spot on. Very comfortable fit and the workmanship is what I would expect from this manufacturer. I am actually thinking of getting a second pair.
They are the wrong fit -- a little big for a size 10 (US) -- so my foot slides around a bit on the downhill even with a thick wool sock. I still wear them as casual footgear -- they are plenty comfortable, well built, and look cool.
