Pretty much all in stock at KBDfans rn for cheaper, SMD versions same price as well. Why would anyone order these off drop?

KBDfans shipping is usually $5 via epacket, I can see it's not an option right now possibly due to Covid, so I guess that makes this a good alternative. Still, being forced into buying 120 switches when most people only need 70 or 90 is pretty annoying

I just assembled a TFV2 w/ Gateron Milky Yellows and like them quite a bit out of the bag (will trying lubing some soon)... how are the 'milky' version different than these with the black bottom and clear top?

mrvcoSupposedly the black bottom housings are slightly smoother than milky. I can feel it if I'm slowly pressing the switches, but typing at speed I can hardly tell the difference. And then there's the sound profile as @outerSpace3 mentioned. The milky top housing provides a lower pitched sound on upstroke.
I went through the trouble of disassembling milky and clear top gat blacks, lubing and filming and then combining black bottom housings for smoothness and milky top housing for that lower pitched acoustic. Honestly, it was not worth the hassle.
I'd say if sound is more important to you, the milky may be the way to go. If feel is what you're after, go with the clear tops. Personally I value the sound more and can hardly notice the "scratchiness" feel in my lubed and filmed milky gat yellows.

Since I am a dummy and ordered these without realizing these are not SMD-friendly (with the black housing bottom), is there anyone who can direct me towards....
1. A preferred site for keyboard parts (such as cases, PCBs, etc.) with a reasonable selection and stock where I won't get robbed in terms of price? Adding up prices, many build-your-own projects seem to outprice the ALT and CTRL easily.
2. A site where I can buy clear housing bottoms for these switches? I'm not sure if it's common practice to replace individual components of switches like this, but I can't seem to find much online.
I don't mind putting in a little bit of work to utilize what I've bought, but it seems like the current sources I've got could be better. Thanks in advance.

rhpittman314you can't just go buy clear bottom housings, you'll have to source them from other switches.
I would recommend KBDFans, you can build a 60%, 65%, and 75% for a very good price! I have a Tofu65,Brass plate & Weight with Paco's and I absolutely love it.

120 is such an odd amount. Too many for 1 keyboard, not quite enough for 2.

incongruousHaving more than enough switches can allow you to experiment with lubing techniques and not worry about over lubing cause you can just toss it and grab another. And 120 was likely taking into account full size board users. I'll buy 70 at a time for a 60% for having those extras handy.

So others were saying Browns were the quietest. Got my Anne Pro 2 with Browns and - Rata-Tat-Tat! - They are so noisy. 🤨 Even when the keyboard is laying on bedding, which would naturally muffle some of the case reverberations.
I want a bit of tactility, but not so much noise. Would O-Rings resolve this for me? From where?

glennacAfter trying and owning atleast 70 tactile switches, I can say that for silent tactile I really like Aliaz tactiles, all they need is film and a little bit of 3203 on the the housing sliders and you're golden imo.
