I spotted one at a pawn shop and thought it looked and felt cool enough for the low price. I came to hate it shortly thereafter, mainly due to severe lock stick. While it could no doubt be tuned to fix the stickage, the scales are so close together that disengagement is almost painful. Now the pocket clip on the Flatiron is a thing of beauty. I transplanted it onto my Southern Grind Bad Monkey, and now I like my SG a lot more.

For about $6 more you can get the CJRB Crag which is a similar design (blade shape and size) but the CJRB has a nice D2 blade and feels MUCH higher quality. To me the Crag feels like a $70ish knife and makes a helluva beater blade for the cost.

28 isn't too much for this knife by any means, there's just no point ordering through drop and paying shipping on top

For the money this is a decent knife. For $30 I didn’t have a lot of expectations knowing full well it was a budget knife. I bought it for the sole intent of building a custom scale for it. As many have stated it can be a bear to disassemble. The screw heads are soft and they use a hard setting threadloc from the factory. So much so that I had to make several applications of a quality penetrating oil while heating the standoff to remove it. The serrations on the frame lock are very rough and will begin to make your thumb sore if you like to play with your knife. The frame lock is VERY stiff as well but the lockup is rock solid. There are bronze washers on either side of the blade, the action is decent but I found I had to put a lot of tension on the pivot screw to keep tight when opened. That being said, I took the knife apart and went to work on it. Filled down the serrations slightly on the frame lock, rounded the edges on the thumb hole on the spine and built a custom scale for it. I like it better than new at this point. It’s a budget beater IMO. Enjoy the knife for what it is and don’t fuss about what it’s not. $30 isn’t bad for this at all.

This type of knife really doesn't do it for me. To each their own, but I don't need a tactical spatula.
So is this named after the building in NYC, the cut of beef or the hair styling device?
That's it! The "Flatiron" must just be a warning about the blade "steel".

If you're an Aussie and chasing one of these my local camping store (Snowy's) has the G10 version on pre-order sale for $39aud with free postage. That works out at $28usd....

I want to like Mass drop but I don't understand. Why would you buy this for $30 on here when you can get it for $30 on amazon prime?

A 7Cr series steel seems like it would be way too soft to be able to hold a decent edge for very long at all. You’d probably be a bit better off spending a couple bucks more on 8Cr or 9Cr if you really like this series, or either 440C, AUS-8, or AUS-10 if you want to keep price moderate but get better performance.
