Love the scales but I think I'd just buy a higonokami if I were going for stylishness and a knife with a big flipper poking out of my pocket. If they built this in Sandvik or some other slightly more reasonable steel, I might give it a try as is, and just work around whatever awkwardness might arise from the design until I got more used to it. Not with the 7Cr, though.

I picked one of these up earlier this week. As many of you suspected, the tang is pretty annoying when its in your pocket. Overall the knife is typical Gerber quality.......no major issues (the grind is a bit uneven in one spot). Its obviously meant to be more of a stylish knife for hipsters and IG pocket dump photos, than it is for hard use, but its pretty neat for the price. Its a bit on the heavy side. The blade was fairly sharp out of the package and it cuts pretty well due to the semi-deep hollow grind.

I haven't decided yet if I will be buying one or not but I personally find the design interesting. Practical? No, but interesting and the scales look pretty ;) I get that the design might not be for everyone but I find that at least, in the last couple of years, Gerber has been trying to come up with more interesting or unorthodox designs, which is a good thing IMO. However, what they still need to do is step it up a bit regarding the blade steels they use. It is quite common today to find knives with D2, 12C27N, 14C28N, VG10 in the $30 to $40 price range.

How on earth would you 'flip' it? Does not look feasible. Looks like a take on a Higonokami more than anything

I cannot conceive of a reason to have a piece of crummy steel projecting out of my pocket, waiting for me to impale my hand on it. Wait! You say that I could just carry the knife in my pocket. Well, I reckon a hole in my pocket is easier to fix than a deep abrasion on the palm of my dominant hand.
