I'm actually really sad to see people attacking Massdrop specifically, for this.
Massdrop didn't create the crypto bubble. They don't dictate the prices of these products. Massdrop has said in the comments that they are literally breaking even on this card at this price. Blame crypto miners for inflating the price, and vendors and retailers for gouging customers to take advantage of the increase in demand. Not Massdrop.

Clixx13It is not only because of the crypto bubble, but also due to increase in cost of memory. The gpu scalpers are contributing to the whole issue too.

idkfaThat is very true, memory is skyrocketing as well. People are ripping Massdrop for having the nerve to say this is a "good deal" but this is the best deal they can get, and thus is the best deal we can get from them.
Massdrop negotiates by guaranteeing a certain number of customers for a certain product based on the popularity within the community. This falls apart with GPUs right now because vendors don't need this guarantee. These things are flying off the shelves everywhere, why would they drop the price for Massdrop when they can put it on a shelf and sell it immediately regardless?

Clixx13Fuck that. Massdrop goes to the manufacturer directly and the manufacturer does not sell at MSRP-or-above.

FuckitfuckthisfuckthatMassdrop's offer has to compete with other entities that also buy directly from the manufacturer in guaranteed high volumes, and some of them do so regularly.

FuckitfuckthisfuckthatDude, you could not be more wrong. We are breaking even on this drop and Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA, ASUS, and everyone else are all charging ABOVE MSRP for cards at this point. Its not the retailers.

FuckitfuckthisfuckthatYou don't know what you're talking about. The manufacturers have all raised their prices, too.

Tex-ArozziI don’t think attacking MassDrop here is appropriate, and I don’t want to come off that way myself. I just think personally as a consumer and especially because I’m only on here to find good deals, that this product doesn’t belong. As I’ve said elsewhere you could very well not be making a profit at this price point, but as the consumer I don’t care as much about how much you do or don’t make from it, I care about how much I have to pay for it. And it’s still well above that point for most people. So maybe just wait until it’s a good price that we will want to pay for it (on this site specifically and not other comparable sites) and release the drop then. People wouldn’t be on here complaining about the price if it wasn’t a drop right now at this current price.

Clixx13Not Massdrop's fault. Why some believe they would get anything close to original MSRP here when Massdrop can't get these video cards for anywhere close to that shows a huge lack in human understanding.
I paid about $240 for my GTX 1060 6GB card about a year or so ago, and $750 for my GTX 1080 Ti just before the current cryptomining price hike. I was lucky, to look back on it now. Had I a waited a month later I would have been faced with $1000+ for the GTX 1080 Ti. Most of us just have to wait for prices to get close to normal again. Might take some time.

MustangExactly, the entire market from top to bottom is disrupted. I don't understand the logic behind blaming Massdrop at all. It's ridiculous.
I was in the market for one of these cards a few months ago, and definitely should have just bitten the bullet. Figures, the one time I decide to avoid early adopting..

CouchKushinIt's still a better deal than you can get other places. Newegg is selling this card for $640. If you still don't like the price here then don't buy one. It's a pretty easy concept.

solBLACKIt is. I agree with you. And I won’t, but for the amount of complaints I see here, is it even worth it for MassDrop? I suppose that’s up to them. I don’t like to see this level of negativity regardless. And I don’t like to see unfair deals, especially on a site I consider to normally only try to sell things at fair deal prices. It may be fair amongst all the other retailers. It’s not fair to the people who know what it was sitting at before they jacked the prices. And apparently it’s not fair to MassDrop to have to sell this product at price, ergo no profit margin.

Clixx13Massdrop are charging over the price offered by other sites, so yes, they entirely deserve to be hammered for what they're doing. They are either dishonest or incompetent.

johnukguyWhat "other sites"? What prices? Dishonest and incompetent are not the only two options. Those are just the only two explanations you're willing to accept. That says a lot more about you than it does about Massdrop.
