For a buck twenty that shit better be 50 feet long. Love the "bae" price break as well.

It says "all metal construction" which makes me think that a metal surface or metal edge will touch my knife blades. If this is the case, what will keep it from scuffing my blades when I take them off or put them on the holder? There should be a polyethylene, nylon, wood, or laminate surface between my knives and any metal object they are going to be slapped up against, or slid off of. Am I missing something? Is it really metal against metal?

THIS DROP: WON'T SCRATCH YOUR KNIVES! ALSO THIS DROP: ALL METAL CONSTRUCTION MAGNET STRIP k den. /s For 100 bucks you could make your own out of wood and make it look pretty snazzy; hell you could make several for this price and you wouldn't need to worry about drunkenly (please don't cook while drunk, sharp knives and 10-15 fingers depending on state of inebriation don't mix. Unlike what got you there.) slamming your knives into the steel edges and chipping an edge. It looks pretty, but I wish they had done a softer material on the edges where the holder contacts your blade and kept the global design on the inside where there is no contact. And yeah, ikea sells sells plastic faced versions for 13 bucks, hard to beat unless you really like your global grippy dot pattern.

Not to necessarily justify the price of these, as value is subjective, but consider the following:  • It matches the Global knife design aesthetic and material. It will survive a fire, flood, tornado, earthquake, locusts, etc.  • The magnet is quite strong. Knives will only disengage with intentional force.   • Knife faces contact only the outer edges of the holder. It won't scratch or damage the face or the edge. Placing knives on this holder is satisfying. The magnet grabs holds instantly, reliably, and securely, without any chance of slipping. Contact with just the tips is enough to hold 8" Globals. I've bumped aggressively into the handles of my knives on this holder by accident and they have never come close to falling off. I pack seven knives onto the 16", and it serves me well. It's worth the price to me because it works without any uncertaintly, it looks good and matches the Global knives, and I won't ever need to buy another unless I end up with more knives and space for the 20" or a second 16".  Most people will be served just fine by the $16 IKEA knife holder. If you're looking for a bargain, Global isn't your brand.

sschuchartI have a cheap magnetic knife holder. I don't trust it to hold my Wustoff knives. Globals are lighter, though, so maybe they will work fine for them.

Other than its dimples, how is this different from other magnetic knife holders to justify its price?

Does anyone know how deep the mounting screws are? I'd like to attach it to the 1/2" laminate board that goes around the side of my fridge, but I'm not sure that's possible... Anyone got thoughts?

partypantsYou can buy the size of screws you need at any hardware store. You could also reinforce it with Scotch mounting tape layered onto the back if it seems that the short screws into 1/2" laminate board aren't secure enough.

partypantsThat's exactly what I've attached my cheap target knife holder to; it holds onto the knife holder just fine.
