Unless they changed the way it is sewn up, this is not a great product as a playmat. I originally bought it because my first mat got frayed on the edges. I ran into the problem where sliding cards off the mat got the cards caught and damaged.

DMCdante888I've not experienced this, but then, I don't usually slide cards off the mat. The thickness and soft nature of the mat allow for pretty easy pickup of cards in my experience, so it hasn't been a problem for me, but I have read other reports of similar issues. Still, as you mentioned, the sewn edges make for a much more durable mat in my opinion. I too have had other mats fray on the edges, so this is definitely a good quality. However, I will also mention that due to the thickness of the mat, it is rather difficult to fit it into most playtmat tubes. Just keep that in mind everybody.
