I am a Glycine Airman aficionado with five Glycine Airman watches in various different styles and sizes, ranging from a tiny 36 mm No. 1, to a large 46 mm Airman 17. Two are GMT and three are Purist models. None are any of the newer "Invicata era" models, as in particular, I do not care for the new style bezel. This is the only new model I want - and it is exactly the configuration I want - bronze, 44 mm size, brown dial & strap, GMT model - and (importantly for me) with the old style bezel (i.e. with the triangular/arrow-shaped odd-number 24 hour bezel markers, not the new style with thin lines in lieu of the triangular arrows, looking more like dividers than hour markers). So, I am extremely pleased to have gotten in on this drop for this particular watch, to be my sixth Airman - the only new style Airman I've wanted.
Very good price the brown dial is selling retail for £2k here in the UK I prefer the blue, harder to obtain new and if you add a brown strap, once the bronze patinas it will look incredible
They are selling at Jura watches for just under £2k for the bronze dial I think the blue is better as harder to find and if you put that on a brown leather strap will be a nice contrast
Don't buy oversized bronze watches. A passing fad and money down the drain. This is an example of the "Invictaisation" of a great watch company which I feared.
WritingDropIt's too big (42 is really the largest size a Airman should be made in...the original was like 38 or even 36 if I'm not mistaken), it's not what's come to be called the "purist" or what I like to call "the Airman". (what's really the use in having a 24-hour watch if it just runs like regular watch with a GMT complication?) and good god, I lived through the 70s, the era of bronze...bronze is not a color for watches...it is a color for (presidents, I guess?). I just don't think I could come up with an uglier watch that held any sort of lineage to me very favorite watch, the original Airman. Now, they've strayed off the path before (GL0167, the double-twelve and the Airman 7), and I know a lot of this is aesthetic and therefore purely subjective, but this is the ugliest one I can remember. Someone may be able to jog my memory, but I do think this is abominable.
CalvinLI think I will wait for the combat sub as well that I missed on the last drop. Basically because I already have an airman base 22 purist in blue dial and strap with stainless steel case and it looks very similar to this one apart from the bronze and brown colors.
