Now that's sharp. Too bad it's a little rich for me at the moment.

WhichwaydidheGoScrape together the coin. This is a really good price. Back in February I bought an Airman Base 22 Purist Version (white dial, brown leather strap) for slightly more than double this price from a dealer in Italy.
I kind of want the luminous dial Purist, but I don't need two Airmen....

WhichwaydidheGohello all, is this really worth $2,700.00?

Frepz21No... but it is definitely worth $699.99, plus the $7.75 shipping charge. I have looked at buying this watch for several years and this is the best price I have ever come across, less than half of what you would normally pay. (As has been speculated before, stock may be being liquidated since Invicta recently acquired Glycine.)

AJR1923Is the Purist (not being a GMT) a 24 sweep on the hour hand? I am assuming it is... please could you confirm? I've really been looking for a true 24-hour sweep. The fact that there is a "GMT" version confuses me... and I like the look of the Purist more. (The specs on Glycine is not very helpful either...)

lailokenCorrect. The Purist models' hour hands sweep the dial once a day.
True 24 hour movements are rare. Aside from some cheap Russian watches I've seen, the only ones I really know of are maybe 1-2 $4k-$5k Kobolds and the Breitling Cosmonautes $6k+++.

AJR1923Yeah, I've seen the cheap russian ones you speak of... but I've also seen the Uno 24, Forte, Longines, Detomaso, Messerschmitt 24, Luminox, and H3 Tactical. But none of them are as pretty (and as classic) as the Glycine. (Or at least, if they are then they are not as affordable)
This is way above my price range I was shopping in, but it has all (and more) of what I've been looking in a watch, and I've ordered the Purist now...
It has: 20ATM (I've been considering a Seiko Divers) Automatic Crystal back true 24 hour hand (and of course, looks good to me at least)

lailokenI am not sure if both models actually feature 24 hour sweeps with the hour hand, because as you say the Glycine brochures are not helpful. The addition of a fourth hand for an additional 24 hour pointer would not preclude the GMT models from also having a 24 hour sweep hour hand.

lailokenI just watched the Urban Gentry video review of the full lume GMT model and the hour hand is a standard 12 hour sweep, not a 24 hour sweep... so that should apply to the "Mystery GMT" model as well.

WhichwaydidheGoCorrect.....the regular hands are a standard 12 hour sweep, with the GMT hand and then your putter dial...in theory offering 3 time zones...I plan on using the GMT as a 24 hour hand....at least that's how its working in my mind!....feel free to correct me on that thinking, as I am already secong guessing myself and I haven't even hit "submit" yet!

Maddog1970That makes sense to me. I still am looking at reviews of the "Mystery Purist" to confirm it is a 24 hour sweep by the hour hand.

WhichwaydidheGoYes the purist models all have a 24hr sweep with the hour hand. Can take a little getting used to I hear. I guess the added benefit of getting the GMT version with the red fourth hand is that you have the ability to track three time zones instead of two on the purist. I have my Mystery tracking three zones with the GMT hand to actual GMT time (red), and Singapore/HK/Perth time on the outer bezel... GMT "purist" in a sense I guess! ;)

WhichwaydidheGoSince I work in the aviation industry, I will set the GMT hand to GMT/Zulu time as well... and use the rotating locking bezel for tracking my home time zone when I travel.

GraydogI know some Glycine Purist model watches offer a 24 hour sweep hour hand, but why do the pictures in this drop show approximately the same placement of the hour hand relative to the minute hand for both models?
Here is a picture from this drop of the Bi-Color Purist model, which shows the increment of the hour hand to be where I would expect it to be for a 12 hour sweep model (nearly one fifth of the way between the standard 10 and 11 o'clock positions, as the minute hand approaches 12 minutes past the hour):

GraydogTo the best of my knowledge, ALL "Purist" models are 24 hour movements; indeed, this is the defining characteristic of the "Purist" models - it's a "pure" pilot's watch as it only functions as a 24 hour watch.

AJR1923Yes, I believe you are correct. I found some literature online where they make that specific point. I think the pictures just show hour hands that are not well aligned.

AJR1923From what I have read, the watch movements are the same. My guess is that the Purest models simply don't use the normal 12 hour movement (that is used for the hour hand in the GMT models)... but instead attach the hour hand to the 24 hour movement (that would normally be used by the GMT hand).
